Nylander trade is interesting but ultimately puts us even more over the cap and im not sure I love the idea of the Weegar contract, although I am interested in that deal so idk what to say there. Boston never takes that deal.

Weegar would be the best defenseman on your team. The contract is probably a little long, but the Leafs are looking to win now not 5 or 6 years from now. Curious why you think Boston says no?

The idea of just H. Lindholm for Hanifin without the other players mixed in is worth thinking about, but ultimately it wouldn't work because H. Lindholm has a NTC.

In the description I mentioned he might be willing to waive it to play with all the fellow swedes.

I don't know much about Zary. Looks like a decent prospect and the Bruins could use more top 6 capable C prospects.

At face value, I'd say that Calgary gets the best player (today) and the prospect that has higher upside, but the Bruins get a player that probably fits their timeline better and prospect in a position of significant need. The 3rd seems to smooth out the difference. I could see this trade happening if the Bruins had a strong sense that Hanifin would re-sign. I'd hate to see Lindholm go, but you've got to give some to get some I guess.

That's pretty much exactly how I saw it, Lindholm is probably a little better, but Hanifan is younger and not much of a downgrade. And yeah I don't want to trade Zary away as much as the Bruins don't want to trade away Lysell, but both players fill needs on the other teams rosters. And like you said the 3rd is for Lysells potential higher ceiling then Zarys. I'd probably be willing to upgrade it to a 2nd and Boston returns something like a 4th or 5th.

What do you think Hanifan’s salary next year is going to be? That is the primary reason why I wouldn’t even consider it much less add to it

2 things on Weegar, one he’s not automatically our best defenseman. Could you make the argument, perhaps. But I could also make a very very strong argument for Rielly. #2 is that our core stars are only 25-26 right now, assuming M&M re-sign the window is there until they are at least 31-32 years old so shooting ourselves totally in the foot in 3-4 years when Weegars like 33 on 6.25M wouldn’t be all that smart. But regardless this deal puts us over the cap by even more, even supposing Muzzin LTIR and Murray LTIR/buyout/trade.

Boston says no because at worst Lindholm = Hanifin (i’d say he’s a bit better but same bracket of players so whatever), at worst call Lysell for Zary and a 3rd a wash, then why make a move for the sake of it when Linholm is under contract at an ok number and Hanifin is UFA?

I mentioned in the description Brodie was also movedin a separate deal to make the cap hits work. As for the Bruins they save 1.5 million this season, capfriendly says they have around 5 million in cap space, but I don't see any mention of the 4.5 million they lose from their bonus overages. I imagine if he was signed to a long term extension it wouldn't be more then what Lindholm is getting now. But by then the cap has gone up and the bonus overages are gone.
