Matthews

Created by: Hockey_Soul
Team: 2023-24 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 25, 2023
Published: Jul. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Taking stephane_robidas' idea but tweaking it to make the cap work.

Next year the cap goes up $4m, plus Brodie, Bean and Robinson's contracts would drop off.

This would still probably force CBJ to sign Marchenko to a cheaper 2-year bridge deal in order to re-sign Tex, Silli and China, but that's not the end of the world. That would then give them the option to choose between who to re-sign two-years later when Laine's deal is up and Fantilli is (hopefully) due a big extension.
Trades
CBJ
  1. Brodie, TJ ($2,500,000 retained)
  2. Matthews, Auston

You can't honestly think this is enough for Matthews.

not only is this not enough, he has a NMC, not only does he have a NMC, even if he didnt, he would never waive for CBJ

TOR should most definitely accept this if AM is leaning towards leaving TOR

If he didn't have a NMC, what would he not be waiving?

Kent Johnson and Adam Boqvist are very good young players. I could see not calling either a prospect anymore, but they are not far removed. Wouldn't TOR rather have good young players who are already NHL tested than prospects they have to wait on?

Lol, okay. So he'd just waive one but not the other. Got it.

Hard to say he wouldn't waive anyway. Columbus has been becoming a desirable destination in recent years. Werenski, Laine and Gaudreau all opting to sign, loaded with young talent, state-of-the-art facilities, and now an elite coach.

hes not going to the arm pit of the usa and signing for 8 years. that elite coach played patrick marleau more than him in a game 7, lets stay on planet earth here

If Mathews is resigned as it's stated in this deal you would still have to add Fantilli to Kent Johnson and Boqvist to acquire him from TO

You mean the Hall of Famer with the most games played in history Patrick Marleau? That was probably a smart move.

On planet earth there is this place called Columbus that is a really well-balanced and nice place to live, which is why countless NHL players and coaches have chosen to live there after they retired from the game. Where are you?
