Probably not. Considering Tre traded Thachuk for Weegar AND Huberdeau AND a 1st AND a prospect.

Of course Thachuk is better (clearly). And had an extension in place, which Huberdeau and Weegar did not.

I assume that Chicago would need to add a 1st at least, just based on optics.

I would like Weegar on the Leafs though.

I doubt it, but they desperately need an impact forward.

i've heard quiet rumours that calgary's ownership would block any trade offers from treliving because of the optics. would be insanity if true because i think if willy ends up getting moved calgary seem like the most ideal trade partner

They get 8 years of weeger though, wasn't a sure thing when the Flames got him that he'd resign.

I think if Nylander was coming back ownership would be OK with it. He's gonna at least sell jerseys and keep fans in the seats.

A prospect like Coronato and a 1st.

Weegar is a good top 4 guy, and the Leafs can definitely use him moving forward, but 40 goal scorers at Nylander's age have more value to a team than a player like Weegar.

I know Trevling signed Weager long term, but no reason the Leafs should take on eight years of Weager, even though he might provide value for a few years .
Not sure how the trade helps the Leafs this year...it doesn't

And you make this move and TO is desperately needing an impact forward. Trading Willy doesn't make any sense

Weeger has played top pairing minutes the last 3 seasons and has dominated his minutes according to advanced stats and actual scoring. He would probably be the best defenseman on the Leafs if they made the trade.

They still have matthews, marner and tavares, and he would be a huge upgrade to their defense.

Weeger is a top pairing dman on pretty much any team in the league.

For now but he's on the wrong side of 30 and is signed until he's 38. JT isn't as impactful without a guy like Willy to get the puck in the zone.

He's only 29, only a year and a half older then Nylander. Defense men seem to age better then forwards. Now that the cap is going to start going up again I can't see his hit being an issue. With the additions of Bertuzzi and Domi I don't think Nylanders scoring will be missed that much.

He's over 2 years older than Nylander. Weegar was born in January 94, Nylander in May 96. Closer to 2.5 years older not a year and a half. And I don't know why people keep saying this stuff. No defenceman don't age better than forwards. Anyone over the age of 30 will begin showing decline. Elite players slower than others but at 33, everyone is in danger of losing a step. That's 6 years away for willy 3 and a half got Weegar. And as you mentioned the caps going up, Nylander's cap isn't a problem either.

So you're good with signing Nylander by 10x8 then?

Seems like the non playoff Flames have all these top end Dmen....Weager, Andersson, Tanev, Hanifan and Zadorov.

Why would the Leafs or any team sign Nylander that contract . No rule, that you have to HAVE to sign your own UFAs.

If we were re-signing Hanifin then I would do it, but without both Hanifin and Weegar our D would be the dog’s breakfast
