If neither team is happy must be a fair trade then.

Statisticly weeger was a way better defenseman then andersson last year, even with his slow start, he had 7 points in the first 40 games and 25 in the last 40. He beat out andersson in corsi, Fenwick, xg%, s% and hdc% despite his bad start. Yet when I suggest weeger for nylander leafs fans say it's a terrible trade for the Leafs. I suggest andersson and flames fans say it's terrible. I just don't get how two top #2 right shot d men are valued so differently.

Trading a player with 3 years left for someone with 1. Doesn't make sense with us losing 3 players in 1 year due to not signing here. Calgary has 6 UFA's they have to deal with, and don't need more

Absolutely makes no sense and I think Nylander is a fantastic player, Andersson might be our best player moving forward and should be the next flames captain

A trade can be declined by both teams. If neither team wants to do this, conversation doesn't happen and GM's go on there way

Hanifin for Nylander is the fair value trade to be made involving Nylander. Maybe the flames add a bit, but nothing huge

I think the leafs would really be missing willy if they traded him. You aren't replacing that in this trade.

I think we'd have to add if it was hanifan, especially since he said he wants to go to the states.

The Leafs really need to improve their blue line though.

I’d offer Hanifin and Dube, then show Nylander the bag so he extends with us. Let Treliving have a full year to convince Hanifin that Toronto is close enough home for him

Of course you’d miss Nylander, he’s awesome. But you’re not getting a return as good as Andersson if/when you trade him

Yeah I'd be willing to give him his 10x8, might convince lindholm to stay too.

My thoughts exactly. I think Nylander would fit perfectly with Lindholm and Huberdeau

If CGY is getting some sort of guarantee, whether that's Nylander coming in with and extension or Lindholm re-signing, then maybe moving Andersson would be worth it but outside of Weegar, their entire blueline is basically question marks. CGY should obviously be trying to deal Hanifin+ (or Zadorov+) as Erbas suggested.

For the Leafs, adding Andersson would really solidify their blue line but they are probably going to really miss Nylander up front. There's also the fact that Nylander is going to be elite longer (likely Hall for Larsson 2.0) but Andersson at 4.55M for the next 3-years could allow them to field a more competitive roster in the following two years especially, and this one if they can add a top 6 rental. The Leafs right side needs more help than the left imo.

As NorthernLeafs05 mentioned, the Flames should decline just off contractual differences. So, if these two are essentially swapped it would have to be in a larger. Probably add Liljegren and Dube (if he's not at risk of suspension) for starters.

As for Weegar, it's because he is 29 and has a huge 8-year deal. A common theme on cap friendly is people not wanting players from other teams or FA, particularly 29+ year old, who are signed up to or past 35. Although, I've seen someone say the same abou giving Nylander 7-years.
