Description
For Atlantic, I think the Leafs and Panthers make the playoffs pretty easily. Everyone else(except MTL), is competitive enough for that 3rd spot, but I feel that Boston has an edge due to their D and goaltending. When it comes to the other teams(BUF, DET, OTT and TBL), the all have a factor that can easily destroy the team. For the Sabres and Red Wings, it's goaltending; for Tampa it's health and for the Sens it's both goaltending and coaching.

In the Metro, it's really a question of Pens vs Caps. I have the Caps on top due to the goaltending but I feel it can go either way.

I was heavily considering putting the Yotes at 6(as high as 5), they have a great coach(can't say the same for their arena) and a young team that I feel can surprise some people. The biggest factor for the team IMO is the lack of experience which I feel will give STL and WPG the edge. St. Louis, I had finishing as low as 7th due to their goaltending and their defense but decided that their offence was significantly better than Arizona's.

In the Pacific, Nucks could make the playoffs but it all depends on their consistency(in terms of proper PKing, scoring, etc.). They could probably pass the Kings pretty easily due to the Kings having two backups as their tandem.

Carolina below the Devils? In what world? Carolina's defense is miles better, their top six isn't much worse, their depth is better and Carolina's goaltending is way better. Not to mention, the Devils kind of spun their tires this summer with Toffoli coming in, he's great, but is he a replacement for Sharangovich and Tatar? He's going to regress drastically. Carolina added Bunting, DeAngelo and Orlov with no losses. I don't get this...

i can see bruins being worse than sens, but someone's gotta be 7th, could be sens, could be red wings or could be bruins or sabres, that division is just too stacked lmao

Red wings and Boston are the next worse after Montreal imo. Then I have Florida , Tampa, Ottawa and Buffalo competing for 2 division spots and 2 WC spots

The OP is wowed by the top six of the Devils but then doesn't realize that's the only advantage that the Devils have over the Canes... The Hurricanes have way better coaching and defense and the Goaltending is better than the devils

8 20 goal scorers
Tkachuk, Stutzle, Giroux, Norris, Batherson, Tarasenko, Pinto and Kubalik

3 40pt Dman (Chychrun, Sanderson, Chabot)

Get .900+ goaltending and they’re a playoff team

You’re such an Ottawa hater it’s unbelievable

I was hyping them up last year and look what happened

I’m not trusting them until they:

1. Get a coach who actually knows what the **** they’re doing

2. Actually get into the postseason convincingly

People realize that Detroit has horrible goaltending too? On top of a bad/incredibly average team right? Buffalo and Ottawa are much better than Detroit.

Buffalo has ****ty goaltending and ****ty defence

And Husso is good but when your defence doesn’t show up ever, what more can you do?

Yeah and they have much better talent than Detroit and their young players will get better defensively Sabres went 4-0 vs Detroit last year scoring 26 goals they aren’t close to Buffalo at all.

Canes would easily beat the Devils in a playoff series, no doubt about it(already happened, would bet on it happening again). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I felt they didn't really bring in a high-end finisher(like Toffoli or Duchene, Bunting is a rat, not a finisher). When I look up and down the lineup, the scoring just isn't as good as NJD and I think that's the difference maker. It was evident in the Florida series that you couldn't get big goals when you needed them the most.

I think that the lack of high-end scoring has to do more with the RBA system than the lack of talent... I think the Hurricanes could use one more scorer to make them a cup favorite

You mean when Svechnikov was out, Teravainen was playing through a broken hand and Pacioretty had his achilies blew up? Yeah, they were missing some scoring. When this Canes team is healthy, the Canes have the firepower to keep up with New Jersey. Hell, they outscored the Devils in the series before without Teuvo, Max or Svech.
