Petry isn’t voiding for SJ so there needs to be a side deal to move him, and the sharks will need to retain a little more.

Take McDonald out and increase the retention to $4m. No way is the trade happening with a $9.2m cap hit

How high do you think Grier goes with retention %?

4 mil is too much 3.5 max otherwise the return increases.

I was originally thinking around $3.5M in return. However, Frank Seravalli said on Sportsnet 590 that Grier only wants to retain a max of 20%, so $2.3M.

Last proposed trade I saw from a SJS insider (Peng) was $4.5m retained for Ty Smith, Sam Poulin and a conditional 2nd. We'll throw in Granlund for free. The longer the wait, the less the return. We'd like to have Karlsson, but we don't need him. Sharks are at a major disadvantage on this one

Then he will get no return. He has to pick the lesser of two evils

Peng pulled that trade out of his ass and said as much in the article. Has no bearing on what actually is being offered or negotiated. SJ don't need to trade him yet and that doesn't mean less return

You keep telling yourself that Skippy. EK said he will NOT play in SJ anymore. Saying that immediately decreased the return in and of itself. Every insider agrees that SJ is not going to get a huge return and they need to realize that. Peng was simply pointing out what they are likely to get.

Any retention on Karlsson should be between 25 to 50 percent. The Sharks could seek less retention. The Penguins would expect more retention. Could retention be within 35 to 40 percent?

Sharks don't have too move EK, Should they move him now, yes they should, but they don't have too. EK is stuck there unless Grier gets a offer he likes

EK can also take a personal leave until that trade occurs. Or take a year off and push the contract a year longer. That's not a position Grier is going to want to prolong

Then it becomes a mess in SJ. Karlsson wants out. Management won't want the negative press.

it's like the Chychrun situation. EK isn't the type of player to just sit out and make a whole mess of the situation.

It might have been misconstrued in the translation, but he basically said it is "Not Okay" for him to be in SJ come September.

You're completely out to lunch thinking this based on what he has said to the media.

Karlsson will play in SJ but would prefer to play somewhere to compete. Everything he has said has aligned with this.

But find me the quote that said he will sit out and not play for San Jose this season?

The used car saleman pitch of "sell now" is tired and old, and obviously Grier is not going for it or else we would have seen a trade for the reported returns.

I said he "CAN" take a leave, not that he is taking one. Players have ways of forcing a GM's hand. And I'm not out to lunch, it's reality. Texier just sat out an NHL season while playing in France. His contract slid a year as a result. There is no "used car salesman pitch. I'm simply pointing out it's difficult to focus on the future if you have unresolved issues. Open your eyes. Everyone else in the league sees the same thing. Grier is negotiating from a position of weakness. Sorry you can't see that

You claimed above " EK said he will NOT play in SJ anymore. "
This is not what he said. He said he would not be okay playing out his remaining contract in San Jose.
Nor does sitting out for a season align with anything he has said. You're literally just making **** up or you can't read

Obviously the Sharks are in a rebuild right now, would you be okay with staying with the organization for the four seasons remaining on your deal given where you are in your career?
No I am not. I like San Jose and I like it there, but I've never been able to win before. I want that chance now that I'm at the end of my career. I have been open about that with Mike from the first day he started. He hasn't had any problems with it. We understand each other and we will do so regardless of what happens in the future.

I NEVER SAID HE WAS SITTING OUT. I said that is an OPTION he has the right to exercise if he chooses to.
He DOESN'T want to play in SJ anymore. Period. Maybe I should have worded it differently, but he is done being a Shark. If it happens now, in a week, in a month or 4 months. He wants out. If Grier holds him too long and he is injured....again....you will be stuck with him and will not get ****. Get angry and nasty all you want, but Karlsson isn't worth what you think he is. Be glad there is any interest at all

Yes you should have worded it differently. There's a big difference between "will not" and "not wanting" to. You're spreading misinformation and I'm more annoyed by that than whatever you opinion is on Karlsson's worth

the irony of being called Fox News when trying to stop the spread of misinformation
but then again projection and gaslighting are some of the main tools of Fox News conservatives
