What I think the lines should look like

Description
Also not sure why everyone seems to think Joseph will cost so much to move. A lot of rebuilding teams would want a guy like him to play with the younger guys. Not saying he'll get a big return, but I doubt the sens will have to pay more than a 5th if it comes to that.

Chicago may take Joseph for free but I doubt any team, especially a basement dweller, will pay to fix your cap situation

If josheph had 1 year left then you might get a cheap deal like this but with 3 more years it's gonna cost atleast a 2nd for a rebuilding team to take him

No one is taking 3 years of Joseph for free and definately not paying anything.

I think the reasoning for the cost to dump Joseph isn’t that he’s a terrible player but more so that at this point in the off-season, most teams are up to or near the cap. Also, the teams that can afford him are rebuilding, and know only a handful of teams will be able to take him and Ottawa needs him off the books. Now, I don’t think it’ll cost a 1st because again, he’s not a bad player just slightly overpaid, but either a 2nd or a prospect and a 3rd/4th should be enough.

Hawks obviously decline. Joseph is overpaid by at least a million for what he provides, and with 3 years left and his actual salary being more than his cap hit, no GM is giving Ottawa anything for Joseph. He costs a 2nd to move out.

It's only going to cost the Sens something bc of Pinto not being signed with no cap space... That's why, it's teams trying to take advantage of the situation

Another option that I haven't seen suggested so far...

Retain some salary on Joseph, like 0.95 to make his AAV at 2.0

Then you'd get a 5th or something instead of paying

Would you take him for a late pick with retention? He's a pretty decent bottom-6 forward. Just a victim in a ****ty situation once again orchestrated by Pierre Dorion

Or the fact that there are 3 years left on his deal and he is overpaid.

Not from the Hawks. They don't have room in the roster for another forward.

That too but if Ott had cap space, they wouldn't be so pressured to get rid of Joseph and less likely to pay a lot to dump him
