A Petry cap dump starts with adding a 2nd. If that's too much find another team with cap space willing to settle for a 3rd.

I don't see Edmonton doing this........ unless they absolutely can't find any way to cap dump. That said I'd be willing to even throw an additional 1st and take the 3rd out as I think Bouchard is a safer Offensive DMan option than EK65

That would be a no for Chicago.

Hawks don’t need a d-man so the $6.25m cap hit and $12.5m in actual $$ requires a bigger payment then a 3rd round pick, Start with a 1st.

If EDM is willing to to trade Bouchard, there would be a bidding war to acquire him.

A "Plan B" to EK is more a Adam Boqvist as CBJ could very well trade him with their overload of right shot dmen

That Petry trade needs the Pens '25 2nd added for the Hawks to even consider it.

It isn't a 1st... He's not playing at his value but he's still playing just fine, it's not as though he doesn't know how to play anymore lol. I do agree it is not a 3rd and that the hawks don't need a Dman, specifically on the right side.

It'd be more like Penguins retain 1-1.5M on Petry, with a 2nd and a prospect.

I only say a 1st round pick is required for Petry if they want to trade him to Chicago because the Hawks don’t need a defenseman. another team may take less or even give something up for him if he fills a need in their lineup.

My assessment is based on Petry’s potential value to Chicago, not his value as a player.

While not suggesting I agree with the above trade, this statement is ridiculous. With the possible exception of AZ, the Hawks D group is the worst in the league. That joke unit is going to get collapsed every night. They need defensemen, alright. 😄

Edmonton doesn't need to "cap dump", so they're absolutely not trading their young stud RHD at a massive loss.

They have enough veteran RD to play the season. They don't NEED Petry, and how good he is doesn't matter much in how they finish the season. Still in bottom 5 of the league. If you wanna dump cap, you gotta pay to play. The teams that are looking for Petry as a value add to their team are up against the cap and can't afford him.

Not saying it will be a 1st, but it will be more than a 3rd three drafts from now.

I didn’t say anything about Petry, I couldn’t care less if the Hawks want him or not. I said the Hawks D group, as currently constructed, sucks, and that’s the truth.

Who cares? They are rebuilding and expecting to suck again this season. They have four vets in Jones, Murphy, Tinordi and Zaitsev, the remaining two spots are expected to be used to give young players like Vlasic, Roos, Philips, Kaiser etc. some opportunity and NHL experience.

If they bring in another veteran it will be a waiver wire claim, NHL minimum deal or cap dump from another team that brings a top two round pick. The higher the cap, the higher the pick.

I can read quite well and what I can comprehend (which is something you seem to have difficulty with and is also fundamental) is that you are unable to make a solid argument to counter what I posted so now you have chosen to get insulting.

A big part of team building is having a clear understanding of where the team is in the process of becoming competitive. The Hawks are in the early stages of a rebuild, they went through the tear down stage and are now in the process of acquiring draft capital and young players. Would Petry make them
better this upcoming season… perhaps but to what end? So they end up 25th instead of 28th? The Hawks are better off using their cap space to acquire higher value draft capital, finishing as low as possible again this season and grabbing another top 3 - 5 pick in next years draft.

After three years of solid drafting with a ton of picks and a s**t load of cap space heading into next year’s free agency period; which is projected to be much stronger then this year; they will be well positioned to augment the roster with solid veterans who are not overpaid 35 year old d-men.

Now I know I said a lot and you may find that overwhelming, so I suggest you read slowly, sound out the words, look up the definition of those you don’t understand and maybe, just maybe you will understand. Please know I am cheering for you!

Lol, Hawks fans are cute. Your entire city forgot you had a hockey team until Dollar Bill croaked and the local blackout was finally lifted, and now you guys all act like old timers. It’s adorable. Impossible to take seriously, tho. And again, I never said anything about Petry. But yeah, you read.😄

Go back to the very top and READ the proposed trades; Hawks fans have been responding about a proposed Petry trade to Chicago and why that proposal as constructed wouldn’t work for the Hawks… again comprehension buddy.

How ironic is it that a Penguins fan is chirping that the entire city of Chicago forgot they had a team. Seems to me there is a certain team from Pennsylvania that was on the brink of collapse and was being rumoured to be sold/moved to Hamilton until fortuitous circumstances landed Lemieux and then Crosby in their laps. Maybe it’s only us old timers remember those days.

I mean understandable, but have 3.5 to sign a guy worth arguably around 6ish..... they might get it done on a bridge deal, but per usual the issue is going to be goaltending and depth for the Oilers

Bouchard

Dobson got $4M x 3 last summer, Byram & Miller got $3.85M x 2 this summer. That's about what Bouchard will sign for.
