Sharks decline. Too much retention. Grier (I should say Sharks ownership) isn't going from 2.3 mil AAV to 4.75.

That was Grier's rumored starting point. Obviously it'll be more. But Plattner isn't paying 4.75. Don't be ridiculous.

Unless you're fine with trading EK65 for free.

4.75 plus 5 for Cap dump Granny. Not happening. It's not Grier's job to clean up Pens salary cap.

And cap dump Rutta at 2.75 mil on top of this? Talk about living in Fantasy land.

I'm sure SJ will take on 12.5 mil to trade EK65. 19 mil retention for 4 years. LOL

I mean the other deals usually have you guys taking Petry and Granlund. You are taking on a lot less cap, so more retention.

Taking on both Petry and Granlund plus retention is also living in Fantasy land. Again. You're not getting EK65 for Free no matter how hard you want it to happen.

A first, second and Broz are included.. where is it free? I know youll say taking on those contracts is that value, but we are taking back a big contract too so I dont think the Sharks should expect the world if a trade goes down.

It's essentially Free because of all the money SJ would be taking on. I'm surprised you're not wanting SJ to include 50% ownership of the Sharks too. Maybe add Alex Nylander to make it fair. LOL

And you're not taking back a big contract here. You're taking on a whopping 6.75 mil. Very nice for a 3 time Norris winner coming off a 100 point plus season. Average NHL salary is around 3.2 mil.

I've posted my EK65 trade many times on here. Maybe you missed it. But I'll post it again. No problem.

Pens get EK65 (3.5 mil retained)

Sharks get cap dump Granlund, Blomqvist, Poulin, 1st, 2nd

That's 8.5 mil coming back to SJ. 14 mil retention for 4 years.

Pens get EK65 at an 8 mil Cap hit.

We would have to find something for Petry, but not terrible. I feel like Blomqvist is a really important piece so we will see.

Sharks can't help you with Petry. He won't waive his NMC to come here. You're paying Dubas a lot of money. It's on him to make Petry disappear. That didn't sound nice. But you get my point.

I'm not saying this proposed deal is good, just saying sharks are in fantasy land if they aren't going to budge on $2.3M in retention.

Rutta also isn't a cap dump, still a solid depth defenseman, probably would be an easy flip for the sharks as well although I don't think he'd be part of an EK trade package. Granlund is a cap dump.

Correct, not Grier's job to clean up the Pens cap issues, but he does have to bite the bullet a bit on the bad contract the sharks gave EK or they'll never get anywhere and eventually EK will actually demand a trade somewhere IMO

Karlsson can demand a trade all he wants. He's under contract to SJ for 4 more years. Grier isn't the Pens GM. He doesn't have to do anything.

Taking a 5 mil cap dump in Granny and retaining 3.5 mil in retention on EK65 for 4 years is biting the bullet. He's not going to take 2 or 3 bullets like most Pens fans are suggesting (expecting).

They won't hold EK for 4 years if he starts demanding to be traded though, I don't know a time that's ever happened in the NHL and specifically with a higher caliber player like EK. I'm not saying that he's coming to the penguins, I'm just saying if he starts getting louder on wanting out of SJ they're going to have to find something.

SJ will have to eat $3.5-4M on retention and at least one larger ($4-5M) contract coming back, otherwise no team is trading for him, just the facts.

I don't get the trades sending Petry and Granlund for example, but I understand sending Granlund and expecting $3.5-4M in retention.

It's not just the facts at all. It's wishful thinking to suit your flawed narrative.

Then they'll be stuck with him on the team, and he'll get annoyed and continuing asking out until it's messy. I could care less if it's the pens. Make it the leafs, Canes, Seattle, whomever. Any of the teams he will waive for will need to send one larger contract back and the sharks will have to retain $3.5-4M. No contender that he is going to waive for can afford to take him at a higher AAV (nor should they given his age and injury history). Sharks gave him a massive contract and they'll have to ultimately eat a piece of that.

The contract coming back to the sharks won't have as long of term as EK, it'll be 1-2 years most likely.
