Arizona playoff push

Created by: Darko2214
Team: 2023-24 Arizona Coyotes
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 7, 2023
Published: Aug. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
They would still probably still miss the playoffs, but I think this team is better than NSH on paper, and if one of the top 4 teams collapses, they could sneak in.

The D core still doesn't have the star power, but has better depth than a lot of playoff teams.

1) is Peeke really good and I just don't know it? Because he's a popular player in ACGM yet, Columbus clearly doesn't have him in the same regard if they completely retooled their defense this summer.
2) Arizona didn't trade for Durzi for him not to play top 4

I would take that for Peeke as that's a fair value. The problem is I think we should be keeping Peeke over Boqvist because I rather take the shot blocker than raw offensive talent from Boqvist but that's just my take. Also keep the faith Arizona y'all are cooking and be back in the playoffs soon maybe just not this year.

Arizona has just as good of shot, with anyone not named Dallas or colorado, 95 points and final wildcard in their reach, just to wake up with an angry oilers team in first round.

He's not much more than a 2RD/3RD physical shot-blocker, but he does stay healthy, eat a lot of minutes, block a lot of shots, and have a decent shot himself. He's also locked up on a fairly inexpensive deal for 3 more years and only 25. I'm not personally high on him, but that's exactly the kind of player GM's overpay for. However...

...I think Peeke is redundant with Gudbranson, and "physical RD who blocks shots" is a lot easier to find than someone with Boqvist's raw offensive talent. I think trading Boqvist over Peeke would not only be something we regret in the near future when Boqvist blossoms, but would be selling extremely low on Boqvist (who hasn't been able to stay healthy, but has looked good when he is) when we could be selling high on Peeke (who won't ever play as many minutes again as he played last season, or block as many shots), especially when Peeke's game typically ages more quickly than Boqvist's and he's already the older player.

All that said, I'd take a 2nd for Peeke in a heartbeat, and a 3rd + 4th/5th would be just fine too. Arizona is going to be sneaky good this year, especially with the Cooley signing. They're going to be outright dangerous in just a couple of years.

Sam Girard is a good D but he is right in there with Moser, Valimaki, Durzi as an offensively minded defenseman. He also does not fit the "cactus" model that Bill Armstrong is building with AZ (hard to play against, don't want to bump up against, etc.). I was interested in him as an add for AZ at the beginning of the off-season but the Druzi signing tossed him (and Calen Addison) off my list of players worthy of acquiring. Just no fit for him as a building block for AZ.

Peeke on the other hand is a very interesting player trade proposal. He fits the "cactus" mold and he fills in the stay-at-home physical guy role that only Josh Brown is currently providing. a second for a role player that AZ needs is a reasonable price and one that AZ can pay. I like it!

Druzi / Dumba
Valimaki / (Peeke/Dermott)
Moser / (Brown/Stecher)

Girard has more value than that and the Avs aren't looking to move him, especially not for futures.

Wouldn't object to moving Girard for futures but he'd cost more than 2x 2nds.

The cactus model? That’s awesome hahaha. I wish there were more Arizona ACGMs, fun team.

I don’t think this value is right for Colorado on Girard but also don’t think he’s a great fit in Arizona. Girard would be one of your best defensemen, but a Girard-Dumba pairing would be anything but a cactus.

COL would tell you to piss up a rope with that offer. Hronek 1st and 2nd, Newhook 1st and 2nd Girard is worth more than both of them. Hard hard no

Yeah, besides Girard would be harder to replace right now. Maybe at the TDL? Anyway, Colorado declined
