For a second there I thought you meant Keefe needs to go on a diet. I can relate. I stopped drinking Pop and lost 20 pounds. Recently cut out carbs too and am walking each morning. I'm lifting weights but feel like a whimp. Had to start somewhere. 😁

Oh that was out loud. My apologies.

habs decline, even if that trade is really equivalent in value

retained salary slots are valuable for the habs, Hughes said they want to use their cap space to get assets back, and they already are using up 1 of 3. Theyre not gonna use one of the other two on desmith when Petry, Monahan, Savard, or Allen are most likely on the block

1.1m Timmins and 20 goal scorer 2.1m Jarnkrok are hardly fat. But appreciate the fact you made a 23 man roster. Don't think the Sabres are gonna help the Leafs with their cap.

LOC/Jarnkrok is an interesting idea. Not sure I love it, but it’s definitely creative.

2.1 million third line winger on any other team is great value, but on the Leafs he counts as fat.

Maybe Samsonov or Woll get injured.

Kudos for being one of the first ACGMs I’ve seen put together a 23 man roster for Toronto. I know you could probably pare that down to 21 or 22 but impressive nonetheless.

It’s crazy that the only players you have at $4M+ AAV are the big 4, Bertuzzi, Rielly, and Klingberg and you still needed $10M LTIR to fit it all in. Toronto’s cap situation is crazy.

Who says another team is willing to take on the fat the Leafs want to trim?

Sabres certainly have no need for Brodie and I'm not sure why the Leafs would want to bring back Lyubushkin.

The fat on the Leafs won't be considered fat on other teams because of the nature of the Leafs cap structure.

And the Buffalo trade just seems like a win-win for both teams considering the Leafs have familiarity with the player, he's cheaper than Brodie, Buffalo is a good team and close to home for Brodie so he may waive, and Lyubushkin is a Treliving type of defenceman. It checks all the boxes.

Sabres would decline, we would t give u the pick
We aren’t gonna actually want Brodie
So the only reason for us to take him, would be to then hold half his salary & flip him for a draft pick- and giving up the 3rd would defeat the purpose

We aren’t gonna want to help u guys with your Cap anyways
But maybe, emphasis on MAYBE- we’d do Lyubushkin for Brodie straight up- that’s the ONLY way i could see us even considering taking Brodie

There is a reason no NHL team that I can think of has carried 3 goalies for more than a couple months here or there in the last 15+ years. It's a waste of a roster spot. Goalies already have breaks when the other one plays. Goalies also need to play enough to stay sharp. It's really hard to give enough games to 3 different goalies. And none of those three goalies are waiver exempt.

Didn’t Buffalo carry 3 for most of last year? Granted, one of those three was ancient and didn’t play many games but still.

I’m not OP but you could easily replace DeSmith or Woll with a lower end 3G that’s either waiver exempt or would pass through. Toronto probably needs to start thinking about a cheap tandem for the 2024-2025 season and how they get there (develop Woll? Acquire some other goalies? Idk).

They'll probably also hold out on Desmith anyway. Backup market could become competitive in a month, and him at $1.8M could fetch something surprising from a desperate team looking for a competent backup/1B.
