McCann back home

Created by: takagian
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 10, 2023
Published: Aug. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Seattle gets Nylander, who's more offensively consistent than McCann + Brodie who can play top-four D minutes + a goalie prospect in Peksa and some picks for the cap trouble, in exchange Leafs get McCann and Borgen, who can both play on the PK. You could also move McCann to 2C and move Tavares to the wing (though Tavares has the better FO%).
FA sign Shaw, a young player who could benefit from the health staff that the Leafs have to offer, and can be a solid bottom-six player, and Edler to fill-in in case of injures and add some veteran leadership into the locker room. Both Shaw and Edler can also play the PK. Plus cap-space to call up players in case of IR injuries.

You had your chance to keep McCann when our former village idiot gave him away for nothing.

I mean, why would the Kraken do this? McCann is signed for longer at a much better cap hit when you take into account what Nylander is asking for.

McCann is 27, signed for 4x$5M, and is coming off a year where scored 40 goals - with 30 of them coming 5v5, where his most common linemates were a rookie (Matty Beniers) and a good-but-not-star-level veteran (Jordan Eberle.)

Nylander is 27, signed for 1x$6.9M, and is coming off a year where he also scored 40 goals - with 30 of them coming 5v5, where his most common linemates where a good-but-not-star-level veteran (Michael Bunting) and two future Hall of Famers (Auston Matthews & John Tavares.)

Brodie might be better than Borgen, but Seattle's top-4 is pretty good as it is and again this is Seattle trading a player with more team control and a cheaper AAV for a rental.

Peksa is 20 and hasn't played above the VHL yet; not sure how much of a prospect you want to call him currently. He's probably slightly more valuable than the pair of 5ths, I guess?

Seattles easily passes.
