Npc comment 😂. Petry is already 25% retained, and has a year less of contract, which is more appealing for a team compared to last years. Plus in this case he is an extra 50% retained while taking back a bad contract at full price

A 1st a 5th and a prospect is more than it'd take to pay for dumping 1 year of Martinez. Montreal doesn't get anything for 2 years Petry they'll have to pay to dump him.

Martinez should cost like a 2nd to dump. But petry has shown to be approximately a 3.5-4 million dollar guy the last 2 years (4-5 D), so he is a decent contract with value at 2.3 mill. Its Vegas so the pick is a very low 1st. Seems like a reasonable trade

Ignorance is bliss eh? Tell us all about it, we'd be interested to know what it's like to be that oblivious.

Alex M contributed 18-20 minutes a night to a Stanley Cup winning team were as Petry hasn’t contributed a dimes worth in two yrs. Alex M has value Petry has none to negative value. You should hope Petry has a comeback year and maybe at the trade deadline you can dump him while eating half of his remaining salary for a middle to lower pick.

I wish someone proposed the Karlsson Sharks-Pens-Habs trade here before it occurred, so we could here about how nobody was taking Hoffman unless the Habs added 2 2nd round picks because of how negative value he had, or how the Pens would never retain on Petry, or that the trade was just not realistic.

Do you think MB is still GM of the Habs, or have you been paying attention?

Thankfully the idiot who did that is gone from Calgary now. Montreal paid cap space (2 years of 50% retention) to move Petry. $6.25 million or $3.125 per year is what it cost to dump Petry.

So far from the trade tree for Petry

In:
Matheson
2023 4th- Bogdon Konyushkov
Legare
2nd- 2025
Gustav lindstrom
2025-4th
pearson
2025 3rd
*petry and desmith (was traded)

Out
Petry (1st time)
Poehling
Hoffman (great cap dump)
Pitlick (wanted trade)
Desmith (more cap)
we might be taking him on at 3.125 for 2 years but we got rid of hoffman at 4.5m, pitlick at 1.1, desmith at 1.8, poehling 750k, and 50% of petry.

The returns are shocking and we can weaponize cap space for more assets and still flip some assets that we got for more assets. Nothing is guaranteed but it's still great. Also chances are we don't make the playoffs this and next year so that 3.125 is not that bad.

*might of missed some from other petry trades*
