A guy who hasnt been healthy for many years, that was a cap dump and then played less than half a season and resigned cheaply is suddenly worth a 2nd and 3rd?

His injuries are re-occurring, I just dont think he carries that much value UNTIL hes fully healthy and can play almost a whole season (which he'll probably never be).

I understand your concerns and rightfully so. When Monahan was healthy with the HABS he was at 0.8pts per game pace. It is obviously a risk for the Bruins but if he maintains that pace or better when he returns, the trade is a bargain. Again this is a high risk trade for both teams. You can see it a different way, If he starts the season with the Habs and has a 0.8 pts per game pace at the TDL, the price becomes a 1st, a 2nd and a top prospect

Timo Meier RFA brought a 1st, 2nd and a top prospect

Monahan injured prone is not getting us that much value

We just traded a top 4 RHD half retained for two years for a 4th round pick and a body

Don't expect much for Monahan & DeSmith if they are traded

He clearly has talent, but on a one-year deal and without proven consistency, and having missed 74 games in the last two years where he only got 40 points in 90 games, he's not worth that much. I don't doubt he'd be good on the Bruins, as he'd be getting solid ice time and playing with better players, however you can't get a 2nd and a 3rd on an inconsistent and injury-prone middle 6 centre.

Boston needs a center, but they need one who can push coyle out of the top 6. they aren't worried about the 3rd line. i don't see Bs doing this even if the value is more in line.

68pts in his last 140gp over these past three seasons does not equal a 2nd and 3rd round pick, especially with a chance for a pick to become a 1st.

I would call this the absolute ceiling of Monahan's value, and to reach it he would have to stay healthy up through the trade deadline while at least matching, if not exceeding, the scoring pace he put up last year before getting hurt. A guy who can score at a 55-60 point pace while getting PP & PK minutes on a sub-$2M cap hit is a solid second line guy - he just needs to do it for more than 25 games this season to get that kind of value back.
