Year 3 sees Thorton/ Marleau deals expire, which is good, because others gotta get paid...

Subtractions:
Gardiner walks and/or traded before he does; Thorton and Marleau finish deals; Brown and Martin traded for picks as team turns over non-core roster.

Re-signings: Matthews and Marner get their money, locking in team's core. Kapanen, Rychel, Johnsson get second contact.

Acquisitions:
Picks/ prospects for Martin and Brown.

Promotions:
Bracco, Liljegren come in & Dermott moves up to replace Brown, Gardiner. Various "Generic" guys at bottom of line-up work way up from Marlies/ elswwhere.

Result:
3 seasons with core of Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Kadri, Rielly, Parayko, Zaitsev. After that, Rielly and Kadri are up, but rest of group is locked in through 2023-24 (5 seasons).

You think Marner is going to be ok with making $4m less a year and 1 fewer years or Nylander 4.5 mil less for 3 fewer years?

very reasonable to think marner would accept 4m less than matthews, they are both great but matthews is the franchise. I think the original poster is within range But nylander and marner will probably have matching deals of 8-8.5/ year if we keep them both
