Average Delusional Oilers Fan pt 29

Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 17, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't know if these moves are realistic but the moves I'd like to make are;

Deadline:
- Trade Ceci for a more defensive defenseman with the same term but a lower AAV, this will cost assets to shed cap and remain relatively the same skill-wise. (I think Rutta is a minor downgrade).

- Trade Broberg while he still has at least some value, no point in another year in the AHL. I like Broberg but I'd rather have one year of an impact player now than continue to wait on him.

- Pay big time for a rental true #1 RD. Either DeMelo or Pesce, I chose DeMelo because I figured WIN is more likely to sell than CAR. Blaisdell rights are players we could sign to replace the lack of draft capital this year, not a top 15 prospect in the WIN system according to Athletic rankings, but I think I'd just want a body back in that deal for the 2 picks.

Off-Season:
- Sign Kane to 1.5mil AAV and keep on LTIR until around mid-season when he recovers from surgery. When he comes back you can send down Gagner and Pederson.

- Sign Gagner after PTO. (I love Gags).

- Get Bouchard to take the same deal as Byram. Also, Bouch is getting an 850k bonus this year nobody is mentioning. 4.7 is more than fair for him this year.

When Kane plays:

Kane-McDavid-Hyman
Nuge-Drai-Kane
Foegs-Clouder-Brown
Holloway-Ryan-Jan

I love that lineup...

I disagree. I think DeMelo is way better given not only the skill-set but overall. I think he is closer to Ekholm than Ceci. Broberg is kind of whatever to me at this point. I really like Rutta, he was solid on Tampa's cup teams. He'd be a perfect partner for Kulak at that AAV.

I don't perceive Ceci is better than demelo but even considering that. This seems like an overpayment for demelo. Broberg and a first? .... Seems too high, but hard to see the jets refusing such a trade.

defensively he's better sure, not by a wide margin at all so definitely not worth practically 2 firsts. Winnipeg accepts this in a heartbeat

I'm actually not sure if WPG accepts this. The value is there for sure, but it messes up their Dman chart even worse than it already is. The Jets have two NHL-dressable right-handed defensemen, and DeMelo is the only one who can (effectively) play with Morrissey. Broberg would also add another lefty to the logjam on the left side. Add in the retention on DeMelo and it would be basically impossible for Chevy to find a replacement on the right side.

There would need to be some very uncharacteristic wheelin' and dealin' shenanigans from Chevy in order to make this work for the Jets. This trade feels like when you have to overpay because you going against the other team's trade block in Chel.

Either of these trades would result in Holland getting fired. Good thing he's smart enough not to do them.

Sharks aren't burning their last retention slot on that.

Jets don't really need another LHD but they'd be crazy to not take that overpay, cant see even Kenny Holland offering that.

Yea they are or I would!! Getting a 2nd and a 1st plus an expiring contract vs Rutta who is 2 years and Ceci is more offensive than Rutta which fits a need.

It's a 2nd and 4th. Ceci isn't expiring. That's basically 4.6m/year for Ceci.

Not tying up the last retention spot for a star like Ceci

If it was no retention, sure.
