Next season key items before we see this seasons team

Initial Creation Date: Aug. 15, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What I consider Key Items for next season.

1. Reichel Contract: Can he be a productive 50-60 point player without playing with Bedard. If we see enough out of him to be sure that he is a core piece moving forward what does his next contract look like. With the cap going up I think a fair deal would be 6.5 AAV over a 7 year term 10 team ntc in the eligible years.

2. The other guys contracts… this could mean anyone from Raddysh to Vlasic to Guttman… the next season is ginormous for each of those players and we’ll have a better idea of their team fit and contract value later. I’m just going to make an arbitrary guess for each player based on the roles I see them playing Raddysh 2x4 (Buys 1 UFA year and sets him up for a juicy contract at 28 IF he can be productive with Bedard or Reichel… my preference is to trade him at peak value this season) Vlasic: I want to see how he pairs with Jones… his offense is too limited to be worth a ton on a long term deal.

I feel like Reichel will probably push for a bridge deal to get more money later but if he has a solid year and KD/Richardson KNOW he's going to continue to improve you absolutely have to lock him up long term. You have an opportunity to sign a deal that could look incredible in a couple years in Reichel pops.

Contracts on the others probably dont look too far off, the young fringe guys like entwhistle and isaac philips probably get less. For Raddysh, Ross Colton is the comparable that comes to mind in terms of what he might get on the next deal but personally I agree that he's a great trade chip this TDL. He is the cheapest forward in the league+an RFA and if he puts up 15 goals by feb with Bedard/Reichel he could bring back a pretty nice return.

I'd be cautious about that much for Reichel after 1 year of performance. I 100% understand that you've qualified that he plays away from Bedard and achieves 50-60 points. I'm with you there. Also locking him up 7 years can help down the road when cap space will be more critical. It's a calculated risk, but I have a hard time with $6.5. It's just really high for quite a while. I'd argue that his next 3 years will be ~$3M due to RFA since he has 1 "year of service". Kurashev's played almost 200 games already. That's 1 reason his contract was so high.

As for Vlasic and others. Bridge deals all the way. Make them earn every penny before giving anything. I'm afraid we end up like TOR if we start handing out contracts before they've done anything. Remember...Toews/Kane had 2 bridge deals before their mega contracts kicked in.

As for TRad...I'd SERIOUSLY explore a tdl move. If they can get even half of what Jeannot received...gotta do it.

I'd have to think Nazar plays wing in the NHL, but there is a decent chance that at least on of Ludwinski, Greene, or Thompson could push to make the big club by 2024-2025 (or celebrini). Hayes and Savoie probably also get a good look in camp next summer as well, and TBD on Oliver Moore I guess for now

I don’t think Reichel at 6.5 will look like anything but a bargain unless he completely flames out after signing that contract. Keep in mind that the cap is supposed to shoot up significantly and that if bridge him now we will have to pay a longer term AAV later. For example instead of paying him 6.5 in 3 years when Bedards contract kicks in we would have to pay him north of 8 for similar production. Plus signing him to 7 years now locks up the entirety of his prime years.

I can agree with your points on Trad and Vlasic though.

I think Nazar ends up at Wing in the NHL long term… but with him expected to sign at the end of this upcoming season + not Moore not being ready for the start of next season I foresee the hawks playing him there if for nothing else than to gain flexibility. A center can always play wing, but a can’t always play center (aka 2012 C Patrick Kane)

The bridge deal era is good as dead, we have no choice but to pay our young studs

Bridge deals are for teams who can’t afford long term cost stability. Hawks are not one of those yet.

Bridge deals aren't dead. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a one or two year deal so that the sample size is larger to base his longer term contract off of.
