Description
I feel pretty confident about my prediction that Merkulov makes the roster – Boston needs cheap scoring after all – but it will be a dogfight for that 4C spot in training camp. Could see any of Beecher, Farinacci, McLaughlin, Steen, or Brown win that position depending on how camp goes for them.

Brown will most likely get the 4C spot. We'll see if Farinacci is even ready.

Still very good D and G. It'll come down to the forwards. I really don't know how that will turn out. It'll be interesting for sure. I still think they make the playoffs.

I wouldn't pencil him in. There will be a ton of competition for that spot. Picked Farinacci because he has the most interesting and versatile toolkit, but even outside of him there will be McLaughlin, Beecher, and Steen pushing Brown for the spot.

Greer in AHL?
I would love to see youth infused like this, but i don't think so (at least to start the year)
Merkulov, like Lysell is still a bit too small, and i think a top-6 role will set him up for failure. Playing alongside someone like Coyle, Frederick on 3LW maybe better suited if he can handle the physicality. I think 1 more year will be best.
Farinacci instantly steps in as one of our top 5 prospects, but a minimum of 1 yr in the AHL i think best. Beecher still needs to work on the offensive side of things.
I personally think we roll out with either Boqvist 4c too much skill to bench, and Greer has earned his time as at least F-13. Plus a line with him and Looch would be chaos and would love it
best case is mclaughlin makes a push a 4c, and we let the few prospects we have take their time. We'll still be at minimum a wildcard team this year, and likely next too

Merkulov's just a small player. At this age, he's not getting that much bigger, so you have to take him as he comes. 2nd or 3rd line, it's now or never to give him a chance to prove himself in the NHL.

As to Boqvist, he wins faceoffs at a weaker rate than most wingers. Personally I'd want him at 4LW over Lucic but that probably isn't going to happen. He'll be on the NHL roster though even if it is just as a 13F. He's got more upside than Greer in any case, who is fine but really doesn't have much more upside than what he already is.

“Patrick Brown is another really good, detailed player,” Sweeney said. “He kills a lot of penalties. Geekie is over 50 percent [at the faceoff dot]; Brown is well over 50 percent on draws. Chris Kelly had pointed out that if a couple of our centers don’t come back and Charlie Coyle is our only right shot center, then maybe we should address that, and I think Geekie and Brown can do that and Brown can slide over to the wing as well.”

Based on these comments, his right handedness, 56% FOW and PK experience makes it sound like he's the Nosek replacement. While I'm aware it only affects the salary, they signed him to a one-way deal and in most cases, you want to keep players on one-way deal up in the NHL. Brown would clear waivers, but McLaughlin, Farinacci, etc. will need to make a really strong push to get the role as they're waivers exempt (just like McLaughlin last year having a good camp and getting re-assigned) to earn a spot.

Personally, I don't think he's a really good player and I probably wouldn't have him up, but I'm confident he's the current projected 4C in their lineups.
