why would colorado take on an awful contract in a trade for a very good center in his prime?

Sakic said he expects Bigras to compete for a roster spot next season. Halak is a single season stop-gap backup goalie and salary balance, no real value for the Avs. I'd say either NYI need to add a forward prospect or remove Bigras.

grovercleveland - 1 year for a quality backup that could turn into a deadline dump and in return we receive a first and second rounder and De Haan. I agree with Peterman that NYI should throw in a prospect, or we remove Bigras from the trade altogether.
