Description
Leaf fans need to understand you're not getting Necas or Jarvis for a rental Nylander. I'm not saying you're wrong in any of the description, but then...why are you trading for him? Nylander's held out before and his contract demands are insane at the moment. DW doesn't do rentals...so how's this going to work? Keep the best defense in the NHL together. Go get a #2C. That's what CAR needs. Not Nylander.

You know what Caniac, this is actually... reasonable.

Well done, as much as it hurts me to say that...

Can Pesce even sign a 8yr extension and don't think the Sabres would want 8yrs. Plus change Rosen to Kisakov Poltapov or Neuchev.

Damn, a Caniac post where he reasonably values his guys?

Buffalo passes because there’s no guarantee that pick is a playoff pick, they are a weird team to gauge.

Toronto passes because Skjei shares the same fate Nylander does… he’s expiring. And Skjei’s 18 goals will likely not be replicated as he shot a higher% than he’s used to and it was the first time he’s ever scored double digits. Probably an outlier year.

So wait, lemme get this straight here..

You’re saying Toronto can’t get what they want or deserve for Nylander because he’s a rental until proven otherwise (sure, fair point), but Carolina can get what they want and a better offer for Pesce who’s in the exact same situation as Nylander?

Adams has dropped enough hints already this summer without naming Pesce, Hanifin or other players that he isn't trading for players with 1 year left and in need of extensions - and even if Pesce is willing to accept deal to Buffalo, Adams isn't committing $56M to a player who will turn 30 this season. Once Power and Dahlin sign their extensions, Adams is no doubt going to want to keep cap space reserved for the eventual extensions of Krebs, Quinn, Peterka and Levi - not to mention possibly wanting to re-sign either Mittelstadt and/or Jokiharju next summer.

Yeah cause extensions for UFA's happen all the time they never try to get full market value. Did you not see what Seth Jones got and Pesce is wayyyyy better.

I would never sign Pesce to that, but if I could get him for say 6yrs at 6.5mill I would. But why wouldn't he just sign that in Carolina. And I know what Adams said, but you make a exception for Pesce for the right price. Guy could give us the best 6 on D we have had in a very long time.

I’d probably switch Robertson with Zac Jones if Gus wins the 3LD spot. Robertson can stay in the AHL until he isn’t waiver exempt

Jones' deal was also signed by a senile old man. There's not so many of those in the league anymore. Pesce's also a New York native so he'd be going home somewhat

I'd do that, but I get screamed at more for swapping Jones instead of Robertson

I wouldn’t mind trading Robertson if NYR can sneak Jones through waivers. But if they lost both then they have no defensive prospects left

Yeah not really it a little over a 100 miles difference between buffalo and where he grew up to Raleigh and there. I grew up in that area Buffalo is worlds different. Bowman was 48 when he signed Jones hardly dementia age.

peak jones was better than peak pesce thought! (not that it lasted long unfortunaly) . are you implying that pesce will be traded for more than jones and sign more lucrative contracts?

I'm saying I test the market and get what I can if I'm Pesce I'm not doing a sign in advance unless you completely blow me out of the water with an offer that doesn't do it. That's debatable about peak Jones but he isn't there and really wasn't when he signed

all your points are reasonable. The trade isn't bad too. I probably would try to keep Nylander for that package but I do like Skjei's game. hard to say if he'd be a fit in TOR but wouldn't be bad for sure

I just don't see it happening

Just bc YOU would make “the exception” doesn’t mean that Adams would though

I don’t see us signing a 3rd defenseman to a big $$$ long term contract
I’m not even convinced we actually need one anyways
All we really have to do is find Power a “Samuelsson” to pair with, and we’ll be in great shape- hopefully Clifton is that guy

Although I agree that another big$$, long-term contract probably isn't in the cards, Pesce for six years at that price would give the Sabres an enviable, kick-ass top-four group on the blueline.

If he's sign 6 years at a reasonable cap hit, he'd be extended already. For a 6 year deal, I imagine the AAV would have to be increased a fair bit...
