Desperation play

Created by: bdb
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 20, 2023
Published: Aug. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
We haven't seen any Rutherford type deals yet since he's joined the Canucks and think we see one if we have a less than stellar start to the season, which I predict.

Toccett has been talking lots about the teams need to be stiffer and get players who can make plays off the wall. I could see them targeting Anderson in that vein hoping he could reseruct his career.

While Anderson is on a bad contract, Rutherford (Allvin) still end up paying a premium because heavy players with potential to play in the top 6 are unicorns.

Montreal makes this move as they get an additional first and two other players that can be sold at the deadline for additional assets while getting out from on of their worst contracts.

Toccett rotates Hoglander/Podz as they continue to learn.

Not even close. Anderson cost a 1st+, and you still need to pay for Beauvillier's dump, Desmith and Savard unretained.

Habs decline. Value is somewhat in the ball park, but by making us retain on Savard, we can’t retain on Beauvillier and Myers. W/o retention, those 2 have no value

Any Habs fans saying No are delusional. Getting a top 15 pick in either 2024 or 2025 would be amazing. And not having to watch Savard and Anderson play again would be a blessing

Habs could even retain more on Savard for an extra pick. Spencer doesnt need to be in the trade, just waive him

Good point on the retention, needed it to work for Van.

Agreed, but I have the feeling it gets worse before it gets better unfortunately.

You are straight up crazy my friend all the players are essentially cap dumps other than Desmith but his value is low. Montreal gets paid to move out significant long term salary at the expense of backup.

I think the point is that the Habs organization very clearly don't see Anderson as being on a bad contract and it doesn't sound like his contract is viewed as being all that bad (mostly because despite his flaws, players with his size, speed and physicality are incredibly rare).

Fans opinion has zero bearing on what may happen.

?????. That sounds really homerish. How can 4.1m Beauviller' s18 goals, 40 points be a cap dump, but 5.5m Anderson's. 25 goals, 40 points (if he ever played a full season) be such great value?

Yes its feels closer than some of the Habs fans think. I think if the Canucks remove Martin, its closer as it gives the Habs a little more CAP flexibility. De Smith is a throw away quite frankly, but the Canucks can bury him for 1 year. Andersons contract is a concern given its length and his injury issues. Four more years at $5.5 worries me. Hes already 29.

I think you mean Anderson costs a 1st+ to dump. Beauvillier is better, costs less, and is a pending UFA so he has much more value than Anderson. You’d also have to pay for Savard’s cap dump, he’s awful now. He’s been worse than Myers the last 3 seasons

This is a terrible trade for the Canucks

Beauvillier >> Anderson
Myers > Savard
Martin < Desmith

If anything Montreal should be adding the 1st since they’re dumping bad multi year contracts

Ah yes because a cheaper and better player in Beauvillier is a cap dump, but a worse, older, and much more expensive player costs a 1st +. Interesting logic

It's called context.

Any player on the verge of free agency is a capdump for a rebuilding team like Montreal. Even more for a small winger which they have plenty of.

Anderson is worth a 1st+ because many contenders would overpay for a rare power foward, thus why Lebrun and Dreger reported last season more than 10 teams were interested in him and Hughes rejected a 1st already.

Until Hughes and one of these GMs confirm they have offered at first, it all nonsense to believe Lebrun and Dreger. Undoubtely Hughes told. those tow liars (reporters) trying to up any return in any trade. Doesn't make it true does it. Don't be so gullible.
How about a first with 50% retention., Now that might be offered.

Sure, noname forum guy knows the truth, but professional reporter is puting his reputation on the line and lying just for fun.

Your crying about news being fake when they don't fit your narative is the same as my toddler answering no when I ask him if he pooped his diaper. Reality is btch.

Fake new is a ****....sorry you're so gullible. Hughes has allowed LeBrun to be his ****. Hughes tells LeBrun BS, LeBrun knows it's BS. But he has to report so he appears to an "insider". That's how he keeps his job.....
Sorry, that so many can't think for themselves and have believe false narratives by reporters/writers.

If Hughes could get another first + in one of the deepest drafts and didn't, he's more out of touch than you. Regardless of if he likes Anderson or not.

Anderson is universally regarded as a player on a bad contract, I'll take the majority on this one over a GM who is likely trying to use the media to help his negotiating position (what all smart GM's do).

People got the stop with the "bad contract" narrative.

He's paid what a steady 20+ goals powerfoward is worth. Tom Wilson will be paid $9M next season BTW.
