I'd rather move Joseph. Even if he plays better this year, he is still the 4th line winger and he is paid too much for that.

Keep Kubalik until January 1st. He'll score a bunch of goals for Ottawa. Then trade him before he turns into Mr. Invisible the rest of the season. 👻

In a vacuum I agree, however given the cap crunch Joseph will take a 2nd round pick at minimum to move. It's better not to trade away assets needlessly.
Joseph is better than kubalik in a lot of ways. He has been a better 5v5 producer. He is great defensively and on the penalty kill.
We have no room on our powerplays for Kubalik. We need more pk forwards.

Would if we could but in order to sign Pinto we have to move out a contract. It's either Joseph or Kubalik

It'll be tough moving Joseph. But not impossible.

Columbus just doesn’t have the roster spot. Bemstrom is likely a waiver candidate by the end of camp. There isn’t room for either of them with Voronkov and Texier coming over and Fantilli needing a spot.

That’s assuming either of those guys make the team out of camp. Neither is likely better than Kubalik at this point. If Bemstrom doesn’t have a roster spot anyways, what’s the downside of a move like this to upgrade?

Kubalik scored 13g/15A EV last season. Joseph scored 0g/12A at EV. How is Joseph a better producer?

I don't get it. Our bottom 6 was terrible at goal scoring last season. It's all everyone talked about. Kubalik helps fix that. Now we want to trade him because he's not perfect at everything? If he was, he'd be a top line player. Every player has flaws in their game. You know what Joseph is not great at? Scoring goals and not coasting after getting paid.

4th liners don't put up 36 pts paces in a defensive role.

Joseph scored 30 pts at ES or PK in 69 games in 2021-22. Last season, in a down year, he still paced for 26 pts. He's a 3rd liner, PK specialist, pretty good defensively and on the forecheck.

His career pace is 30 pts per 82 games, and that includes a lot of time buried on Tampa's depth

Exactly. Tarasenko signing made Kubalik redundant

ES scoring rate (pts/60) over the last 2 years... Joseph had 30 pts on PK + ES in 69 games in 2021-22. Kubalik only had 23 ES pts in 78 games that season. Joseph is much better defensively and one of the best PK forwards in the NHL.

I'd really like to have Kubalik on the team, but it's not possible. Dorion chose to have Tarasenko and Korpisalo with some of the 9.0 AAV created by trading DeBrincat. Kubalik is the odd man out

Or they could could not waste 2.5 million dollars to find out? Columbus is a year or two behind Ottawa’s rebuild and need to use this coming season to figure out what they already have in house and under contract. Kubalik is a fine player, but there are already no fewer than nine bottom 6 options under contract who need to be sorted through. It’s just impractical to add another player to that.

I was going by their most recent stats. But, if we can pick whatever year we want, Kubalik scored 26g/12A at even in 2019-2020

Edit: Joseph got paid. Then his play dipped. He likely had some attitude problems too. DJ, a known players coach that tries to protect his players and keep things in the room, felt the need scratch Joseph in a game that was important to him. To send a message. His play didn't really improve. They tried moving him up in the lineup. Didn't help. To me, that's the biggest red flag. I'd rather have a guy in a contract year than a guy that just doesn't seem to care after he got his contract, signed for another 3 years.

No, the Jackets aren't allowed to use their own players. They have to be willing to take on other team's castaways since they're all clear upgrades for the Jackets despite nobody having any real idea how Voronkov or Texier will perform in the NHL this year.

4 years ago is not relevant anymore. Going on just 1 year is going to be misleading... Should we evaluate Kubalik's production just based on 2021-22? Should we evaluate Joseph's just based on 2022-23?

For that reason, people usually take the average of the last 2 years to compare, some take the last 3

I have know/followed Joseph since 2015 (I live in QC), I don't think there's a problem with him. I think he'll bounce back to his previous level

Entirely disagree.

I dont want pending UFA Kubalik.

Id rather take a pick for Kubalik, instead of him walking for nothing.

Joseph we would have to pay to dump, and he is likely to regress positively
