PHI probably accepts for the picks, Deslauriers had a good year, killed penalties, solid 3rd-4th line tough guy, but they just signed Hathaway for a similar role.

Definitely some nice moves to make EDM a deeper team

For Philly trade, it’s definitely more then enough value. I like deslaurier but idk if he is worth the contract really. Also the value wouldn’t get you Laughton if you were to swap briere wants a 1st+ for him.

Chicago trade I feel needs more value, add who you need to make cap work this season but with Chicago retaining 6+ mill you will need more then a 1st I’d say add broberg instead of Mckegg or Gleason and they consider.

Anaheim trade is solid.

Few tweaks and you are good.
Defence looks a lot better.
We know what ekholm and bouch can do.

Murphy should allow nurse to play more offensive as he is way better defensively then ceci, they will be a good physical pairing.

Kulak and bush are a steady shutdown pair.

I think deslauriers is overpaid but he does bring physicality to the Oilers that they lost with kostlin and bjugstad

True but you can find cheap guys or players with less term.
-Matt Martin
-Sammy Blais
-Marcus Foligno
-Cal Clutterbuck
-Maxims Comtois (UFA)
-Yakov Trenin
-Austin Watson (UFA)

Lots of options most these guys you could get with retention

You may not like the CHI perspective, but hopefully it helps understand why moving Murphy is a hard A$$ move. We have literally 7 LD prospects that need mentoring. Whether it's Vlasi/Phillips this year...OR Del Mastro/Kaiser/Roos next year or Korchinski/Allan the year after. Proper player development means you need vets to teach the young guys how to be professionals. It's the reason why Perry/Foligno got $4M each. It wasn't because they're worth it. As for value...ironically McCabe is the starting point for a comparison, BUT I'm not even sure the Hawks do that because of their player development needs.

That's a hard no from EDM on that trade for Deslauriers. I wouldn't take him for free, let alone for a 2nd.

I've seen it a couple times lately, but where has the idea that Deslauriers is worth a 2nd come from? He's a physical force that's a blackhole at 5-on-5 and pretty average PKing abilities.

Ceci >>> Lyubushkin, so Edmonton definitely decliners that one.

Deslauriers and Laughton are below replacement level players, so that's not helping Edmonton either.

I can see why Chicago wouldn't want to sell Murphy, but from Edmonton's perspective a 1st + Foegele is a high price to pay for a guy who played 2nd pairing last year and didn't do very well at it, based on puckiq.com numbers v Elites. I honestly think Murphy has lost a step. Toronto paid less for McCabe who had much better results in harder minutes on the same team last year. He's slightly cheaper, too.

Flyers would accept and they have also turned down a 1st and 2nd for Laughton already so that wouldn’t get you Laughton

If Laughton was so easily replaced, multiple teams wouldn’t have offered 1st round picks for him. He’s clearly not ur typical 3rd liner. Nicky D is just a goon tho lol.

Hawks easily decline. As @exo2769 stated, Hawks probably aren't going to trade Murphy. But if they did, that package doesn't get him without retention. With retention, add another 1st.

If someone refused a 1st for Laughton they should be fired and banned from ever working in hockey again.

A valid point as always Exo, but I’m thinking this trade with a few tweaks and supplemental moves would work for Chicago.

My projected changes would make it closer model the McCabe trade… especially considering retention.

Chicago Blackhawks
2026 first round pick (top 10 protected)
2025 2nd round pick
Foegele
Forward prospect D+1-2

Edmonton
Murphy at 50%
Blackwell
5th in 26

Supplemental move
Sign Ethan Bear to take Murphys spot after injury.

His 5v5 scoring is 4th line level, his IPP shows he isn't driving play, he's not good defensively, or at faceoffs, or on the PK. And he gets paid $3M.

You made the claim that he's worth a 1st. What do you have to back that up?

A.) Thank You for the compiment. Always great to have a nice back/forth convo with knowledgeable hockey fans like this.

B.) The value is 100% there. If I were Kyle Davidson, I would be making another move before the season starts for a RD. Whether that be TMyers (after his signing bonus is paid), Bear, Timmons (TOR might waive him), or Lassi Thompson (as a piece in a larger Mathieu trade). I'm not a fan of playing Zaitsev. He and Tinordi can absolutely get SOME ice time, but they each need to be the 4th LD/RD imo. Development is key for the long term. If a veteran like TMyers or Bear gets signed...then yes I'm very open to the trade you suggest. If they don't...I'm not sure KD trades Murphy at all.

As a side note, I don't think EDM wants to trade away Foegele. He's a really good 3rd liner and playoff teams need those guys. In this hypothetical situation...it would likely either be Ceci or Kulak heading back. They'd each be on the bottom pair and my guess is they play Broberg...so Kulak heads to CHI. Ekholm/Bouchard Nurse/Murph Broberg/Ceci

He’s worth whatever another GM offers the Flyers GM. And multiple different GMs have offered 1sts+ for him. I don’t care what you think he does or he is worth. Ur not a GM lol. Clearly GMs think more of him than just his deep analytics, which I’m sure shocks you, but isn’t surprising

Overvaluing replacement level players is why your team sucks.

Wait so the other GMs offering the picks makes my team suck? Interesting I didn’t know the Flyers were forcing other GMs to offer 1sts to them for “replacement level players” 😂 sounds like you just need to do some more research on how GM’ing works.

Reportedly, St. Louis did. Most GM's wouldn't, but sometimes one comes along that will do something stupid. And Briere foolishly let the chance go.

Amd now you're left with replacement level ppl layers making too much money. That kind of thinking results in a bottom feeder roster.

Enjoy.

Pagnotta tweeted that the Sens looked into Laughton and the Flyers main insider followed that up saying they made an offer in the range. Friedman said on his podcast Toronto offered at least a 1st for Laughton to Chuck. And then Seravalli said Briere turned down the 1st and 2nd for Laughton. So at least 3 GMs made offers of a 1st for Laughton but the Flyers GMs are the ones that don’t know what they are doing? I would love to know how the Flyers GMs are dumb for turning it down but the other GMs aren’t for offering it? If you don’t like the Flyers you can just say so instead of getting so upset that GMs know more than you do which is why ur on this site crying about a “replacement level player”

Ceci over lyubushkin is insane lybushkin isn't a top d by any means but it's a shock that ceci is still in the nhl and toronto paid more for McCabe they gave up a 1st a 2nd and 2 prospects because he was better than Murphy. Murphy may have lost a step but he is on a bad team so who knows what he could do on a good team

You're shocked Ceci is still in the NHL? You maybe need to pay a little more attention. Not only is he still in the NHL but he plays heavy minutes on the top pairing of a Cup contender.

Edmonton isn't trading their hard minutes 1RD for a 3rd pairing guy, let alone chipping in two picks.

The only reason he plays 1RD is because they have no one else to play with nurse
Kulak didn't work, ekholm would probably work but he has found great chemistry with Bouchard and Desharnais is not going to play top line minutes
