This would be a team that would struggle to make the playoffs for sure. Or they make it but hard to see them making very far. Giroux's contributions won't be what is was, too much cap space spent on guys like Pinto, and Greig. This is why Ottawa can't trade either of their 1st rounders in 2024. Come deadline time those picks have to be off limits.

Pinto and Greig will be solid 2nd liners

If Pinto want's that kind of money? Then he likely will have to find it on another team.... Either that or Ottawa moves on from Norris and then yes I can see that happen. I'm a huge fan of Greig but it would be 50/50 if he turns out to be a strong 2nd liner. I think he could be an average 2nd liner, in that case they would need stronger players supporting him. Plus Jarventie on the top line? I mean lets see if he ever makes it before we anoint him on the top line....Especially if we are going for the cup in 2 years which I sincerely hope we are....

I 100% agree with you that our first round picks should be off limits.

There's a lesson to be learned with chasing the biggest name on the trade market every year (i.e. Duchene/DeBrincat).

I'm surprised not many people on here or even our own GM understand it.

I think they might get another middle 6 guy or move Pinto/Norris to wing and put someone else at 3C

Giving Chychrun 8.5 would be a massive mistake. Even if he plays the full 164 games over the next two seasons and gets 65 points each year I'd still only give him 7.5.

I have no idea how Pinto, Chychrun and Sanderson will get these contracts

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer for
Dorion to start figuring out things.

And he did it again with Tarasenko, putting the team in a tough spot with the cap, instead of rounding out the team nicely with a Tatar or I don’t know and keep both Joseph and Kubalik

I was okay with the Tarasenko signing... He's a guy who played a major role in a Stanley Cup win, and he's a goal scorer. Those are the types of weapons you need. It's not like Ottawa is way over the cap, I fully believe they felt Toronto would have to buy out Murray and then this conversation is moot and Pinto is likely signed. I have to say I like the style Dorion has embraced since the shackles have come off. I understand the DeBrincat trade didn't work out. But I prefer a GM that goes for it instead of a guy who sits on his hands and only puts his neck out there when a team is desperate. Took a swing and missed but will see how the 1st pick turns out that we get from Detroit. I think both teams miss the playoffs so the pick should be decent.

Hard to bet against Boston. Everyone who did before lost so we’ll see. Reality is likely going to be what happened in the Duchene trade, maybe less worse as we downgraded a 4th OA to 19th OA. This time it was a 7th OA

One thing for sure is there is a lot of action with Dorion. But the thing is the team and the whole organization would be quite richer if he actually did nothing after the firesale… Just try to sign the best UFAs you can to patch the holes and help out your young players. Or instead of spending picks to acquire players, get paid picks to take on cap dumps that can still play. Gotisbehere is a good example, Monahan is another.

If your GM is relying on divisional rival next move to get cap compliant, maybe he just shouldn’t be a GM.

Tarasenko would be great if we lacked offensive skill and goal scorers, but look at Stutzle/Tkachuk/Norris/Batherson/Giroux goals per game… and then you have Pinto and Kubalik who both scored 20 each last season, Greig and Joseph who could both score 10+}. That’s only for the top-9, you also a few D-men who can put the puck in the net
