Still think this is what will happen

Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 25, 2023
Published: Aug. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This way all the right side defense can be switched to see who plays best with each other. Also Zadorov and McCabe can be switched to see how each pair play together. Everyone will say it makes defense worse but if you actually watched the playoffs you would have seen we were destroyed by teams built with this style of defense.

Dude if seeler is worth a third so is Timmins, or maybe trade them 1 for 1?

If seeler is worth a 3rd, brodie is worth two firsts, and if you're expecting zadorov to be anything but a 6th defender you're in for a shock

I'll never understand CFACGMs infatuation with Nick Seeler. 🤔

You'd think he was Makar or Josi.

Again everyone go ahead and have your opinion but if if you actually watched the playoffs you would have seen that Schenn was the best partner for Rielly and Peeke is almost a younger copy of him.
Zadorov if you look at his statistics was a extremely good 2nd pair defense. Both his corsi were at 60% how can that be bad defense? Plus he hits like a truck. you all realize we lost Schenn who was the biggest hitter in entire NHL last season. Also lost Holl who am I very glad for but he also had 150 hits which all 370 hits we lost on defense are replaced by Klingberg so far? Good luck this team with this defense will lose in the 1st round guaranteed. But hey critisize my trade some more. Enjoy year 57 if TML does not toughen up on back end.

Just a veteran who likes to throw hits and can play responsible 3rd pair minutes , he is only a back up in case atm.

No team in NHL wants Brodie at 5m trust me if a trade gets done we will have to either find a team to retain salary on him or add a sweetener.

That could work could just be put as an either or, what ever they want. But not many teams value Timmins because he has very few NHL games played and injuries and was on WJ 2018 team.

Schenn had a few good games in the playoffs. That is literally it. That can happen to anyone and it means nothing, so pretending that is a comparable is not gonna fly.
Zadorov has literally never had a 60% corsi, he had 59 at 5v5 in 60+ % ozone starts though. So he waa sheltered pretty good, like a bottom pairing guy, amd hes slow as hell. He is not a 2nd pair guy on a contender.
Lol at the "leafs will be bad if they dont make horrible moves" defence. You realize they've literally done that almost every year and its never worked?

I know everyone wants the team to look spectacular and add elite players but our hands are tied . We have very few picks left and our prospect pool is bottome 5 in NHL. We have to use our limited resources and try to fix a very bad defense.

I realize that. But he's in way more CFACGMs than he should be. Especially with Tampa fans. I can't recall which Tampa fan it was but he literally posted Nick Seeler to Tampa trades every day on here for weeks it seemed. 🤣

So with what you just said we should go back with what did not work last year? I am confused how you think we can magically get the top end players we need to properly fill the holes we have. We have a bottom 5 in NHL prospect pool and our draft picks are mostly gone. How do you propose we get better defense we need then?

There are a few teams who everyone feels they can get players that will fill their needs from easily such as PHI or ARI because they are not contenders or are rebuilding. I think after we all saw how physical the playoffs were those type of players are more in demand then ever. How else did Gudas get 4M, Schenn 2.7M . I guess certain players fit that bill and seem easy to attain.

You do realise that contenders usually have the worst prospect pools right? Like, it's not a bad or unusual thing. And if you watched the games youd know that the issue last year, and the several years before was secondary scoring and being able to move the puck from the back end. The leafs have actually adressed those needs so they clearly arnt doing the same thing they did before

Yes we lacked scoring but the reason was a lack of the right type of players. Shanahan decided that a high skilled team could somehow defeat a grinding deep 4 line team. That did not go well. We still do not have that type of team by just adding Bertuzzi and Domi and Reaves. We need that same treatment on the defense. If you were paying attention we could not score because we have too many skill payers who cannot dig the puck out of corners or dump and chase. All the other teams do is stack the side we try to carry it in on and we lose possesion and are now trying to get the puck back. That is why we could not score. Yes they added some players up front who can do that but on defense who is going to stop the fore checkers that killed us all playoffs? Klingberg? If the TML do not add toughness on the back end I will guarantee an early playoff exit again. I don't care who they add but it can not work with Brodie and Giordano there period.

no, that's not true at all, the leafs simply could not score past the big four and the other teams dogpiled them while secondary guys like jarnkrok and company couldnt get it done. It had zero to do with "the ability to dig". and they never had an issue getting the puck in the defensive zone, not once and toughness has literally never been an issue. It's a crutch for people who want an easy excuse. Zadorov, Peeke and Seeler would make the defence worse in every way. Less mobile, less puck movement, less ability to counter a forcheck because they cant do anything with the puck and would get pinned constantly. If your defenders have zero puck skill, like those three, then you are hurting yourself badly.

What ever you want to believe you go ahead. Clearly you never played hockey. You are delusional if you think toughness has nothing to do with it. Look up how much fighting has gone up in the last 3 years compared to previous years. It is all just in my head right. Wake up and stop drinking the TML kool aid!

So have you looked up how many fights there have been in the last 3 years compared to previous to see just how wrong you are? No you just assume you know better like most uneducated TML fans do.
