No matter which way you spin things, Huberdeau was absolutely a massive player to get back in the trade. He literally outproduced Tkachuk, yet the Flames still ended up looking silly

Huberdeau was worth 2.6 wins above replacement that year. Tkachuk was 4.2. Florida sold high convincing calgary much like yourself that huberdeau was the architect of their success.

I don't think his current form is who he is. It wasn't just 1 good season. He has consistently been a point per game for a lot of his career

no I agree hes a good player, just nowhere near tkachuk territory at any point in his career.

And Pettersson had 4.4 wins above replacement this year. If he were to be traded, he would arguably be the best player to be traded in a very long time. Far better than 0.9 wins above replacement Eichel was

yeah i dont dispute that. But im saying if he asks out, like actually wants to be out of vancouver, they aren't going to get the haul fans think they will. I dont see how thats disputable. it hasnt happened yet.

My point is that Huberdeau was a huge inclusion in the trade. Not everyday you see a 115 point player traded alongside a top pairing defenseman and a first round pick. Florida gave all of that up, and still won the trade.

I don't think it will be the same situation as Eichel, but maybe more like Tkachuk. I don't think he will ever demand a trade, but he may just tell them he won't re-sign. I'd imagine he would return the biggest package the league has seen in a very long time though. Players of his caliber don't get traded often

I like a player, but package will be gigantic to make, and that 11,5 mil aav and puting him on the wing is kinda odd move to even attempt

you're way too bogged down on the points man. The guy is clearly three levels below tkachuk. The same thing would happen in a pettersson trade if it came to that. Nobody is giving up someone as good as or better than pettersson if they know he wants out of vancouver, which is the only way he gets dealt.

again this doesnt mean much, most returns have been pretty crappy for the star talent thats been dealt. He'll get a better return than the Sabres got for eichel. He wont get the entire farm system plus two first liners and 3 first rounders like vancouver fans think.

It never breaks that way

You can't expect to get a 24 year old top 5-10 C without giving up something of similar caliber.

He won't be 24. He will be 27 and will have demanded a trade 1 year from UFA

I gave you 2 unprotected 1sts and 2 high value prospects who were also 1st round picks just last year, one had the best 18 year old AHL season ever.

Please name me 5 players who have been traded for multiple 1st round picks in the last 30 years. I don't know that there has been even 1

And I added significantly

If he isn’t signed by next summer, he is gone. He will be 25 then. Where are you getting 27 from?

You keep saying under 25. He won't be under 25 at the time of the trade. He will be almost 27 with no contract and will only go where he can win and earn what he is worth.

Not saying it comes to that, but if it does I just gave you arguably the biggest haul in a trade since Eric lindros or Wayne gretzky

Your logic makes as little sense as the Blue Jacket fan earlier today. Canucks would have tons of leverage - should it come to having to move Petey, which is far from certain at this point - pretty much every team in the league would love to have a player of Perry’s ability, age, position. You’re going to have to pony up to get a player of that calibre, not sure how / why you think you wouldn’t 🤔? This offer is nowhere near enough - multiple teams would outbid it imo

Who can outbid it and with what cap space?

Name a single player who has gotten this much in a trade since atleast Eric lindros in 1992.

If pettersson wants out in 2025 he can go to arbitration, take the award and go to UFA

Where are you getting 27 from? If he’s dealt it’ll be next offseason when he’s 25

This haul isn’t bigger than the Tkachuk trade, and Pettersson likely gets more (or at least as much) as he plays the more valuable position (although tough to fully compare the packages as this one is futures based and the Tkachuk return was a win now package)

Your offer is the equivalent of an offer sheet, 4 x 1sts. Lots of teams would beat that; who wouldn’t want Petey - a true #1 centre in his mid 20,s, 2 way, 100 + points, 50 goal potential. Lots of teams with good prospect pools and lots of cap space; so stop kidding yourself 😅.
Also, no offense - not clear to me that Petey would want to sign long term in buffalo so there’s that as well

It's my agm. He's traded in the summer of 2025

Of course it's more than the Tkachuk trade

The summer of 2025 he’d be a UFA. If he gets moved it would be in the summer of 2024

I wouldn’t say it’s more than the Tkachuk trade. I think Huberdeau + Weegar last summer were worth more than Kulich + Ostlund + a 1st would be (although it depends how they develop this year as well)
