Not getting any of Thompson, Dahlin, Cozens, or Power would be an absolute travesty

Was just about to say. Do you not want anything great coming back for great going out?

I hear ya, Eichel situation all over for the expansion bros. I think it’s fair to assume of the above, only Cozens should be considered (not that he’s actually viable due to such a favorable contract). Just curious what the thought on what else on top of Cozens it would take. Keep in mind, Cozens signed for probably 5M less than EP, and has put up similar production age considered. Not trying to argue, just mildly curious

Eichel situation is very different. Eichel demanded out because he developed a bad relationship with the org. He also had a very severe career threatening neck injury. Not only that, Pettersson is significantly better than Eichel was. He already has a 100 point, Selke caliber season under his belt

I think most trades are based upon another non optimal season for the Canucks. I wasn’t comparing the players, just a billion proposals based upon comments by said players. You can say they aren’t the same, but also realize they effectively read as the player wanting out.
My question was about Cozens as you had pointed out him as a must, and fairly so. I think there’s the difference in the Eichel thing. Buf couldn’t demand a player of Cozens caliber to start like Van can, because of what you mentioned. I don’t think you can get a Cozens as insert him in a Tuch deal (reads as Cozens (Tuch) Savoie (Krebs) first and second) but just curious. It’s one of those things where I don’t want EP to move, and want Van to be able to build a winner around him, but if he must be moved, obviously I would want Buf in on that.

That is a lousy trade TBH.
Both teams decline.

Well you certainly wouldn't be getting Dahlin I promise that. Thompson wouldn't make sense as he provides 90% of what Petey does at about 70% of the cost of Elias' next contract. Cozens and Power would both be trade chips in a hypothetical Petey trade

Cozens has put up similar production to petey? Since when? Cozens just achieved numbers similar to what Petey was doing as a rookie… I’m not saying cozens isn’t a good player cause he is and is clearly getting better but he’s not even close to the level of Petey and imo will never get there.

He might not, but he put up almost identical offensive numbers in his age 21 season as EPs age 23 season. I mean this stuff isn’t hard to look up. It’s not like EP has been a 100 point player 4 years straight.
EP 23 80 GP 32 G 36 A 68P
Cozens 21 81 GP 31 G 37 A 68P
Everyone thought EP wouldn’t get there either. Just saying

Exactly. And why in the world would BUF trade Cozens <> Petey, straight up, let alone give up more? Cozens is on an incredible deal. Petey is going to command AM like money. Not worth it.

People doubted Petey when he was drafted but from the first game he’s played for the Canucks I don’t know a singal person who hasn’t believed he was gonna be a superstar. He’s arguably a top 5 center in the league an that doesn’t happen by accident. Like I said cozens is a good player and I really like him but he won’t ever be a top 5 center in the league. You wanna use the argument Petey hasn’t been a 100 point player for 4 years well cozens hasn’t even been a 40 point player for 2 years. Cozens best year is similar to Peteys worst year…

You clearly didn’t read anything I wrote, so I’m going to make this as simple as possible. No one, and I mean no one, thought he wasn’t going to be good. He was the 7th overall pick. He’s great. He also (allegedly) said if the season doesn’t show promise I want out. If that’s the case you can’t make him resign. So then you go and trade him. I said they had the same numbers age adjusted. And they did. I have no idea if you can’t read or comprehend what I said because it wasn’t Cozens will be the next EP. It was in a hypothetical where you have to trade him because he refuses to resign, a player who’s shown similar promise like Cozens wouldn’t be a bad place to start, not even taking into consideration the value of the contracts. You asked when they were similar, I showed you, and you went into some diatribe that had nothing to do with the point not similar production that you asked for an example of.

We both know that’s not true, you have your example and I pointed out how they aren’t similar but you seem to keep forgetting that or just refusing to mention it. If you’re talking about Petey being a 7th overall pick that’s also incorrect he was 5th and if you’re talking about cozens I don’t know how many times I have to say I think cozens is a good player. Let me ask you how much of a gap do you think there is between cozens and Thompson?

What part isn’t true? I never said Cozens was as good as EP. You said when was their production age corrected similar, like it wasn’t, and I pointed out that Cozens accomplished at 21 what EP did at 23. That doesn’t mean I think Cozens will ever be as good as EP. You are right about him going 5, that was my mistake had 7 on my mind for some reason. No one ever thought he wasn’t going to be good though.

Here was your direct question with my direct response. Same point totals. And if you are saying that they won’t trade him, why did he say he won’t resign if Van sucks again, allegedly. I didn’t just come up with this. And star players never get the total sum of what they are worth, it just doesn’t happen. As far as a gap from TT and Cozens, it’s much smaller than you think. A 21 year old Cozens carried 2 rookies to 68 points with lower PP time and presence than a 25 year old TT 94 point with Buf best two offensive wingers in Tuch and Skinner. I think roles reverse, Cozens is easily a ppg player and TT is probably closer to 70 points.

Last point from me. I never said Cozens was as good or will be as good as EP. I can’t say with certainty, but he won’t be. He’ll be a very good Dylan Larkin type. Which for a 2C is great. I don’t want Van to trade EP but rather build a winner with him. Hate seeing stars in their prime get wasted.

But like I said before you’re taking cozens best season which he basically doubled his career high in points and comparing it to Peteys worst season of his career. If you compare what they both did at 21 that makes more sense not compare this year of cozens with last year of Petey. You’re right about Peteys comments according to elliotte Friedman who’s about the only reporter I trust these days. I don’t see how a Petey to Buffalo trade ever works out simply because the teams will never agree on what the return has to be

I used career year 3 tossing out the injury season for EP. If you want me to use 21 year old season, it’s not much different:
Cozens 81 GP 31 G 37 A 68 P
EP 68 GP 27 G 39 A 66 P
EP definitely a little better, but not outlandishly once you factor in that he was the PP point getter and Cozens was not ( EP 24/66 PPP vs 18/68 PPP). And Cozens was 21, it’s not like it’s an outlier year when he turns 26 or something.
