For that type of salary retention, I think the Sharks would want higher draft compensation...but this does play quite well into the Sharks' plan to tear it all down. Not the worst proposal I've seen, and the Rangers would love to dump Goodrow's contract.

If Goodrow had only 1 year remaining I'd say maybe, but we'd still be using our last retention slot in a deal that is only netting us a 3rd rounder. We could probably use the slot to retain salary in a three-team trade and still swing a 3rd.

As it is though, Goodrow has 4 more years on his contract so we'd be trading 2.3m for 1 year for nearly 15m over 4 years and Goodrow isn't a good enough player to justify that. Each year it would essentially take up around 35% of the cap flexibility we got back from moving Karlsson.

I think NYR would be lucky to dump Goodrow's contract for only a 3rd rounder.
