Pipeline Goalie

Description
MTL has a couple NHL-possible goalies in their pipeline, so they could afford to deal either Croteau, Dobes or Fowler.

Foudy is someone who still has some value as a former 1st and with the flashes he showed in the NHL last season. He looks like he could still turn into a good bottom-6 wing with his speed, but parting with him opens up space for Voronov, whose size, physicality and ability to play center make him more valuable for CBJ to have on the roster.

I like this lineup for the versatility. Both Voronkov and Danforth should be comfortable playing higher in the lineup if needed, same with Texier and Chinakov. Having Roslovic and Voronkov on the wings gives Babs two emergency centers if someone goes down in a game. There is also still lots of really good young skill to pull from Cleveland too if need be, i.e. Sillinger, Blankenburg, Jiricek, Svozil, Bemstrom, and even LDBB could get a late look.

This is a scrappy, skilled and versatile team, with a much-improved defense, skating ability and coaching structure. I know it's easily dismissed as offseason optimism, but I really think this is a playoff roster.

in term of value, habs would probably say yes... in terms of need - we need one of those G to become NHLers... and we have TONS of wingers in the system. So it doesn't really make sense for us.

Habs need to develop a starting goalie. Theres no point in doing this. None of the current goalie prospects in the system are locks to even make the NHL yet so might as well develop Croteau and who knows, maybe he is the future starter. Chances are CLB wouldn't move Foudy for such a low prospect neither so its all a moot point. He probably wont be taken on waivers and hes slowly progressing for them.

Is Laine really gonna play Center this season? It seems really weird, especially on a line with Johnson and Roslovic.

Could be. He would have played about 15 games there last year had he not injured his tricep at the end of the season. He's excited about trying it out, but they've been pretty tight lipped about it recently other than saying he and Babcock have discussed it.

We'll know more come training camp, but he's apparently been practicing all summer and has discussed it with Babcock. Seeing Laine excited about something is rare since he's usually so Finnish about things, so the fanbase sat up and listened this time.

He's also been surprisingly good defensively there. It keeps him more engaged in the play. He's a better skater than he gets credit for, and he can take away a lot of space with his long wingspan. But coaches have always used him as the top forward in the zone because of his shot, hoping to get him more involved offensively that way. He's better at center IMO. The fact that he's willing and eager to make the move speaks volumes. Hopefully the coaching staff listens and gives him the opportunity.

This is the year to really try it. The team should be good and competing for a playoff spot, but it's not a make-or-break season, so perfect to test a couple things low-key, like Laine at center.
