Jackets 23 -24

Created by: CBJ_Bob
Team: 2023-24 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 19, 2023
Published: Aug. 30, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Pageau trade was proposed by an Islanders fan a few days ago, but with only $1m retention.
I think we would need a little more retention in case we need to trade him the last year, but think he would be a good 2C this year and could move to 3C the next year.
Gives NYI a cheap under-rated forward and some cap relief.

The Boston trade gives them a cheap forward who looked like he finally turned the corner near the end of the season last year and may be an upgrade over some of their own depth players and gives the Jackets a waivers exempt goalie who has put up some decent numbers in the AHL.

Peeke and Boquist both remain on the roster until Babcock can evaluate who he thinks is a better fit or unless Jiricek forces his way onto the opening day roster.
Sillinger, Chinakov and Blankenburg start in the AHL and probably stay there until the TDL while Babcock evaluates the rest of the roster.

Like I am all aboard the Pageau train but Bemstrom doesn't come anywhere close for that even with retention. That being said wouldn't mind at all for to see offers for Pageau if its a reasonable price.

I suspect the Bruins value Bussi more than that. It is not that they would never trade him, but they see a future where Ullmark is gone, Swayman is the bonafide starter, and they want a cheaper quality backup. Bussi is currently in line for that unless his play falls off, which may happen. Foudy seems more like he tops out as a middle-6 guy, and the Bruins seem to have plenty of that now and in their pipeline.

Kind of figured that was the case, but thought it was worth a shot. Not sure what to do with Foudy since I think someone would actually claim him off of waivers, but I would rather keep some of our other guys over him.

I'm not a Leafs guy, but I know they still need to dump cap and ACGMs involving the Leafs seem to throw out Jarnkrok's name a lot. Foudy's contract can be fully buried, he has some NHL experience if they want to start him or call him up, and his cap hit is low if he is called up. I wonder if you could take advantage of their situation if you added in a late round pick? That would of course push one of the other CBJ LWs in your proposed lineup out, and I'm not sure if CBJ fans like that idea or not.

Leafs fans still seem to expect a 3rd rounder back, but I feel like if that was realistic, it would have happened by now. The season is creeping closer, so the pressure will ratchet up on them to become cap compliant.

It looks like the earlier ACGM Pageau trade was actually proposed by a Flyers fan not an Islanders fan so not sure what they would want for him:

Probably not. I like Jarnkrok as a role player but that doesn't help with the logjam at forward already.

Probably gonna cost Bemstrom and our 2025 2nd Rounder with 1.5mil retention. About the only other deal I think could happen is Bemstrom + 2024 3rd VIA which ever pick is better but I don't think that gets you him with some form of retention still as that's a 3 year lockdown on their retention spot and Islanders are the ones who have the advantage in this situation.

I’ve always thought highly of Ken Keyser who Bussi beat out. The irony is I don’t think the GM’s make a trade after the Gavrikov deal fell apart

No thanks. Much rather have Bussi.

Keyser or Dipietro maybe, but doubtful. Foudy would have a very difficult time cracking the roster, most likely be placed on waivers here as well. Steen has been the best player at Prov for 2 years now, nhl ready - overdue actually, and there is no room for him as it is.
