1. This Labanc for Myers trade needs to die. It was one rumor two months ago before SJ got another RD.

2. Knyzhov > Grzelcyk for where the Sharks are in their rebuild. And a 3rd in addition to that?

3. Why in the world would they use the last retention spot on Simek just for 5th

None of these make any sense for SJ

Can we please stop with the commentary that Kynzov has even remotely similar value to Grzlecyk. Matt could be 5 drinks in on the ice and outplay him. He’s got flaws, but he’s a good defenseman.

The reason that Grz has been discussed is the relationship to the coach and bringing stability to a back line that frankly is going to need it. I kind of expect him to sign in SJ next year once Lohrei replaces him.

I’d be fine with Boston keeping Grz this year and losing him outright to give Lohrei time in the AHL. I value that over a 3rd rounder personally.

I think he was referring to the fact that Knyzhov is 4 years younger than Grzelcyk and under team control for 2 years to Grz's 1. Signing him when he's a UFA would be totally viable I just don't see us trading a younger defensemen and a 3rd for an expiring contract during a year where we aren't going to be competitive. We'd be making a bet on signing him to an extension when we could just wait and pursue him next summer. Also Knyzhov's development has been derailed by injuries and the Sharks are going to want to see if he can put it back on track, which is why they extended him last spring.

My guess is that a trade for Grz would happen if Boston is trying to clear cap or a space for Lohrei. It would most likely be pick oriented, but I anticipate that he just plays out the string and moves I.
