Vesey was pretty forgettable here, and the Sabres don't have much room for wingers, if any. Somebody might be happy to get him, won't be buffalo.

He was basically a true defensive shutdown forward this past season. He re-invented his game and found what works for him

For an $800k cap hit, do you expect more than average? Vesey can play either wing, pretty good defensively, kills penalties, can play physical if needed, and chips in 25 or so points on the 4th line. And he is good in the room with his teammates and will stand up for them when needed. What is not to like for $800k/year?

Keep in mind the Sabres weren’t even average when he was there. The team was a mess when he was there. Vesey was solid last season. Maybe now that BUF has taken steps forward he would be more useful. Keep in mind no one is claiming he’s a top 6 guy for clarity.

Buffalo has that in Zemgus Girgensons. Granted, Girgensons signed a pretty hefty deal for what be brings to the ice, but no sense in adding another player of the same ilk.
