Winnipeg normally would have to add a pick to make it fair but because Barron is younger and has potential + the fact that Ottawa is in a cap crunch, I'd probably do a 1-for-1.

Winnipeg isn't in a position to be making a push this year, especially if they trade 37 and 55. They'll likely just keep Barron.

Honestly, I think the Jets are going to be better than many think. What they have this year what they haven't had in 5 is a 3rd line that can produce.

Mind you, I think Barron is part of that plan, so yeah.... they pass.

The offseason is nearing a close and they havent been traded. Now theres barely any teams that have the capspace and would be a good fit. I imagine Winnipeg is going to go for it and see what they have. If they do make trades at the deadline to go into a rebuild, it's valuable to have a middle six winger on an expiring contract like Kubalik. If he puts up 40-50 points this season, he's easily a 2nd round pick + at the deadline esp if retained. Right now this trade helps them improve their team but also gives them more assets to trade to start the rebuild.

Do you think Ottawa would have to add or they would have no interest in Kubalik? Seems like a good trade for Winnipeg imo they get the better player and the better deadline trade asset.

At this time it is a non-starter imo.

Barron was tracking for a solid 30 point rookie campaign with sheltered ice time and one inferior linemate. I am projecting the Jets 3rd this season to be Iafallo-Lowry-Appleton/Barron - where the LW here is seriously upgraded. Able to use his size effectively, I dare say he may see PP time as a front of net presence (depending on his play of course). I could see Barron quietly having a 40 point campaign if he stays healthy; and the think the Jets keep that around even if they are sniffing at the playoffs.

I like Kubalik's game, but he is also is what he his, where Barron hasn't hit a ceiling yet; and unlike Kubalik has contract control.

Given where the Jets are at, contract control matters.

I simply don't see the fit at all.

Lol. I think Appleton has value as a 4th liner. The contract isn't what I would want on the 4th line, but.....

Appleton and a pick for Kubalik maybe more in the wheelhouse. Just not sure that is enough money saved by Ottawa to justify the move.

That's totally fair. No interest in Appleton. Maybe Kupari + pick for Kubalik?

I would think the Jets are hanging onto Kupari as well. A big upgrade over Gustafsson on the 4th line, with some offensive upside.... and again - contract control.

I think Kubalik maybe a better fit with another team.
