There's nothing enticing here for Pesce. Assuming the pick is lottery protected, why would Carolina just take several steps backwards on the blueline?

I am biased, but I think that this is a reasonably fair for a expiring UFA who has indicated that he wont be returning to the canes based on the financial situation, Hronek went for a 1st and 2nd and this essentially is the same thing

He hasn't said that he doesn't want to resign in Carolina, in fact he has said he wants to be a Hurricane for his career. While the value might be fair for Pesce, realistically Carolina also shouldn't take anything that isn't a significant overpay for the guy that is keeping the right hand side of their defense together.

“if the Hurricanes have their way, they’re not trading Brett Pesce, they’re signing him to an extension,” said LeBrun. “And those talks continue with his camp, but I think the Hurricanes are also pretty resolute that if they can’t extend Brett Pesce, they will move him this summer to get max value on the asset with a year left on his contract.”

It isn’t that he wants out, its that he wont do whatever he needs to stay, I should have phrased it better

Pesce wants to stay in Carolina. It's the Canes that won't extend him. They don't want to give him the term he wants, and Brett hasn't said anything. He always says a thank you to the fans after a season. Pesce's supposed contract ask is 8 years and north of 7 million. It's not even the money that's the issue, it's the term.

You use Hronek as a comparable (which is comical, cause Pesce's WAY better). We know Carolina's asking price is a young D man, preferably a young RD replacement, a 1st, and a prospect. This does nothing

Ok, now you’re being a bit much, Pesce is older, and although he may be better defenceively, and not by much, he doesn’t hold a flame to Hronek offensively or in transition, calling him “WAY better” is false.

Look at team surrounding them, one team has been a shoe in for the playoffs, the other was fighting for Bedard, you could play around with the advanced numbers to show anything you wanted. Keep in mind, pending UFA and pending RFA have 2 very different trade values

They do. That doesn't take away from the fact Pesce is MILES better than Hronek. One is a core piece of one of the best teams in the NHL and is a borderline top 10 RD man. The other was deemed surplus to requirement on DETROIT'S blueline. With that logic, a third pairing D man would hold more than a defenseman you can use in all situations. Stop it. Pesce CLEARS Hronek, they're not comparable.
