You understand Ottawa needs to shed cap right? Makes zero sense at all

1. Travis Hamonic has a NMC. He got a NMC because he wanted to play in Ottawa, took less money to do so, but with the promise (in NMC form) that he wouldn't be moved.

Travis Harmonic has no intention of being moved. Ottawa has no intention of moving him. He's a really good vet 7D on a cheap deal

2. Ottawa only want to move Joseph for cap space. They won't move him in a deal that brings in additional cap. Joseph is actually a decent player that fills a role on this team.

Caps pass. Neither of those players help Caps. Mantha has big upside. Might as well see what Carbery can do with him.

They can make another corresponding move. There isn't a limit on the number of trades a team can make.

Didn't know that about Hamonic. I was looking to add another player to provide the tiniest bit of cap relief for the Sens so they weren't taking on Roughly 2.7M in cap, but maybe swap him out for someone else.

I figured the Sens might make a second move in this scenario to move out a player that becomes expendable if Mantha is added. Seems like everyone thinks both Mantha and Joseph cost a second as a cap dump, so it made sense value-wise.

If they end up having to move more talent out anyway, what's the point? It's not like Anthony Mantha would be some great get to begin with. He's a mediocre player, and they'd be lucky to get 75% of a season out of him. When you consider that you'd then likely have to move Brannstrom AND Kubalik to account for the added salary from Mantha + a Pinto extension, this trade would end up being devastating for Ottawa's depth, for no real tangible benefit.

Ottawa has one thing they still need to do this off season. Clear space so they can sign Pinto. They can pretty much do that by trading one of Joseph, Kubalik or Brannstrom. Or in this case they can trade out 4 roster players to sign Pinto and bring in a player who doesn't really do anything.

So much wrong in so little

- this doesn't help what the Sens need to do at all. If they can more trades, then why acquire a bigger cap hit player?

- Sens CAN afford Joseph beyond this season, they wouldn't want to move those "two years"

- You're trading 2 roster players for one, so you'd have to add the salary to the guy who replaces Hamonic too..

- Why wouldn't Ottawa make that move to Anaheim themselves? Is it because they'd need Hamonic to get the bigger cap dump in the trade (Mantha)?

- Hamonic has a NMC anyway and he won't be moved, he just re-signed
