Mangi isn't for sale, especially not for a rental.

I think it seems like a pretty fair trade for all 3 teams. Don’t think Shultz is the answer on D for the Leafs.

Nylander isn't fetching anything like that unless he comes with an extension.

I agree that sign and trades would have to be place for Willy and Hanifin. I think you have to assume that in most of these deals, can’t put that anywhere on CapFriendly though. Maybe they make a little description area to add to these trades to explain those scenarios?

Actually Calgary would simply send Hanifin to Seattle for Schultz + the 1st. Then they'd trade Tanev too (Schultz replaces him with Gilbert or Oesterle replacing Hanifin ) and have enough cap space to go after a forward like Nylander.

There would be extensions in place for Nylander and Hanifin. TOR needs to get rid of cap so that's why they got Schultz and that his contract ends after this season so TOR could go grab someone in FA next offseason. I've heard a lil rumbling that Trelivng might want to bring Mangi to TOR with him. I think if CGY got Liljegren that they would trade him for someone else or a prospect or picks. Also that CGY 6th was supposed to go to SEA. SEA would also be a better team acquiring Hanifiin having him play with either Larsson or Oleksiak or Schultz if he's still on the team and someone else is traded instead. I don't think he'd be on a line with Dunn though.

Calgary still wouldn't add Mangiapane especially not with retention.

That's Toronto's problem Calgary won't be bailing Treliving out by taking on Toronto's problems themselves. Conroy has no choice but to clean up the mess Blundering Brad left behind in Calgary but he isn't going to clean up the new mess Brad created in Toronto too. Like I said Calgary would just trade Hanifin directly to Seattle for Shultz and the 1st rather than do a worse deal to help Toronto out.

Regardless what Treliving might want Conroy isn't going to help him out by selling low on Flames players who want to be here.

Typically sign and trades are just that....i.e. the Winnipeg Jets signed Dubois then traded him to LA. If Calgary signed Hanifin to an extension, then retained 14%, wouldn't that include the remaining year on his current deal plus however many years the extension is for? That's having dead cap space for quite a few years. Toronto would be in the same boat with their 8% retained on Hanifin.
Perhaps the work around could be that Hanifin agrees to the scope of a new deal with Seattle and then signs it after he is traded, if that is within the rules.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure retention only applies to the existing contract not an extension that's already signed but isn't in effect yet. AFAIK an extension counts as a separate new contract not a continuation of the old contract with new terms so when the old contract expires there's no more retention.

In the real world, that is accurate, but here the CBA governs and I have no idea what it says - or if it even contemplates the concept of sign & trade
