That doesn't get Hayton, and it'll cost a 2nd to DUMP Joseph, not acquiring a 2nd for him

3 million for 3 goals and less than 20 points is a cap dump...

With the cap going up, he may cost less to dump, but no one is going to pay a 2nd for him. Most teams wouldn't claim him on waivers right now

I don’t think that gets Buch especially with retention

It would be either a much better starter than branstrom or a really good prospect

Blues decline. I'd want a better prospect than Brannstrom. Also the 2025 first will most likely be a mid to late first with the way the Senators are heading with their young talent.

Put it this way, Luke Kunin played 31 games last year before getting injured but was on a 13 goal, 34 point pace on a much worse team playing about the same number of minutes per night as Joseph. He kills penalties (thought not quite as often as Joseph last year), and can play center. There's a good chance the Sharks try him out at 4C this year. He's also slightly younger, cheaper and is an RFA at the end of his current contract. All that said and the Sharks got him for a 3rd and people still complained that it was too much. I'm not trying to make a definitive argument of whose better, but Joseph isn't so much better that he's worth a 2nd round pick, let alone a conditional 1st.

Another comp is Anthony Duclair who also makes 3m a year. Was hurt last year but played well for Florida in the playoffs and the year before scored 31 goals. We got him for Steven Lorentz (a 4C) and a 5th. I like Lorentz a lot and think he's better than Joseph, but was considered the least part of the Burns trade that also included a 3rd (aka he's worth less than a 3rd). It would be a real coup if the Sharks can trade Duclair for a 2nd at the deadline this year, and he's a middle-6 forward, not a 4th liner.

People don't put enough respect on defensive forwards to appreciate Joseph's value; no points, no value. If I'm OTT, I'm shopping Kubalik long before I let anyone go near Joseph.

As an aside, in this scenario you left Pinto unsigned. Definitely worth finding room for him.

Not enough for Hayton and Sens want to keep and need Kastelic anyway so that trade won't happen

Two firsts and Brannstrom is quite expensive but Buchnevich is worth it. Sens would really need to be able to extend him on a reasonable contract though

You're right except that in the current cap crunch, you won't be able to get positive value for him. Next season as the cap rises and he'll have probably bounced back to being a defensive 30 ES pts forward and PK expert, then his value will be positive again.

By the way, look what he did this summer :

https://lshl.livingsisu.com/en/stats/player_standing.html?season=3978&subSeason=3979&category=6090

Destroyed a 3v3 league where Suzuki, Letang, Perron, Dubois, etc play. 25 goals in 7 games lol

A good portion of hockey fans don't know enough about hockey, it's a sport with a myriad of variables/details. For most cases, you have to play the game to really understand it, and need to invest a lot of time into it (I don't follow any other sport because hockey already takes a lot of free time). It's a very fast-paced sport and a lot happens all the time with the 12 players on the ice.

Joseph of 2021-22 is very valuable, 30 pts at ES/PK in only 69 games, good defensively at ES and Elite PK metrics.

And 100% on Kubalik, I found 6-7 arguments as to why it makes much more sense to trade him before Joseph. No argument for the opposite.
