Same issue with Chabot… except worse bikers 5v5 and marginally better numbers defensively

There’s no reason for Vancouver to do this

The only thing the Leafs could offer that would make the Canucks consider moving Hughes is Matthews. Nothing else is even close

Hughes is very good defensively now, especially compared to Chabot. He also had nearly as many points as Chabot and Rielly combined at 5v5, and had double Chabot’s 5v5 P/60. Not sure how that’s worse at 5v5 than Chabot

Nylanders contract expires too quickly, and we need defence way more then wingers. Same thing with Marner. Tavares wouldn’t waive his NMC and even if he did he’s too old and not as good (and the Canucks would still need defence more) what else is there? They’re very clearly trying to win, they aren’t selling him for futures

Canucks would obviously be adding to Hughes in that situation, but Matthews is the only piece Toronto could include to make the Canucks have any interest

Just a tip, take a look at the other team and their situation before making a fool of yourself. Marner and Matthews are the only one they would even consider trading Hughes for(to Toronto).
Matthews/Marner for Hughes and Garland is the only way you’ll get Hughes and in all honesty I’m not sure if Vancouver accepts

Hughes isn't good enough to get Marner or Matthews ever.

Canucks don’t consider Hughes for Marner considering their team build

24 year old top 5-7 dman > 26 year old top 5-7 winger, especially when factoring in their contracts as well

I wouldn’t put him top 10, I’d put him around 15. Hughes around 20-25th (but for the Canucks Hughes is more valuable)

Of course you would. You'd likely also put Matthews out of the top 5. Why? Because you don't like the leafs

Vancouver easily declines. Canucks are weak on defence and strong on the wing, trading our best defenceman for another winger is just plain stupid. Toronto simply doesn’t have the assets Vancouver would want in return for Hughes. Doesn’t really matter though since Hughes won’t be moved, especially since it sounds like he’ll be named captain for the upcoming season.

JFresh model: Quin Hughes EV offense: 63rd percentile
EV defence: 23rd percentile

Thomas Chabot EV offence: 99th percentile
EV defence: 19th percentile

I’m sorry but Leafs just don’t need another Reilly esque player. Nothing against either Hughes or Chabot, but I don’t want to run the risk of an Erik Karlson type deal

Not everything is a conspiracy against the leafs. He’s not better than McDavid, Matthews, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, Tkachuk, Pettersson, Pasternak, or Kucherov. You can make an argument for him in the 8-10 range but is it that hard to see that not everyone agrees?

Edit: forgot about dmen. You can add Makar, Fox, and probably one of Heiskanen or McAvoy

I’d put Matthews anywhere from 3-5 actually. McDavid is clearly 1, I’d put MacKinnon at 2, and then 3-5 any order of Matthews/Makar/Draisaitl. I’d probably put Makar 3, Matthews 4, and Draisaitl 5. You could argue him above MacKinnon as well

Agreed with this list, but maybe move Matthews to 2, but for sure 3
