OTT price check

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 10, 2023
Published: Sep. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hawks could use someone like Pinto, and OTT doesn’t have cap space right now to sign him. I have expressed interest in acquiring Mathieu from Ottawa in previous ACGM posts which would allow them to sign Pinto… but let’s imagine Ottawa goes in a different direction. What would it cost to bring pinto to Chicago?

They’re not moving him and certainly not for that after making him untouchable for Chychrun and Debrincat

Didn’t know that, but also if that’s the case then why not pay him lmao.

If (and it would take a lot because dumping Joseph or trading Kubilak are easy first options) they were willing to entertain a deal, it would take a lot more than that.

Sens would be bringing up Kurashev or Reichel + imo

I don’t see how they’d bring back Reichel. It would probably take Holtz or Rossi or Lysell+ but why would ottawa do either , they haven’t proven anything

Lol I'm sure Reichel would be brought up first. Also his cap hit would be manageable in Ottawa vs Kurashev.

Kurashev is fine, but Reichel is probably a no go.

They only have so much cap left and he has no leverage, so paying the least possible would be to their advantage. I read somewhere that the Sens are trying to get some term as well which wouldn't be advantages for Pinto who is better off getting a 2-year deal instead.

I wouldn't be surprised to see OTT move Norris at some point in the next year or so and keep Pinto. Norris was supposed to be their 1C, but now it looks like Stutzle has surpassed him. If they think Pinto can be a 2C and come in at a better price point, that could make Norris expendable, leaving cap room for other contracts and filling other roster needs. Not saying they should or they will, but I can see a logical enough path that it wouldn't surprise me. It isn't out of the ordinary for players to go this long without a contract, though.

They will, in due time. They should sign him to a 1 year bridge which should be AT MOST 1.5 AAV (based on what other forwards recently signed after their ELC)

Pinto's long term extension could be signed as early as January (3.5 months) and would end up making Pinto richer as he would earn more in 2024-25 than he would by signing a 2 years deal now.

But first things first, we'd need people to be aware that Ottawa chose to give up their 1st round pick (12th OA in a good draft) instead of trading Pinto for Chychrun

They obviously value him a lot more than in these proposals. Only way to get him is to propose something they cant refuse.

Ottawa won't need cap for a while though as everybody is locked up, so Norris is part of the core and Tkachuk's best friend

Only Pinto, Greig and Kleven will become more expensive but some contracts will be off the books (like Giroux, Zub). If a guy like Sogaard becomes expensive, Forsberg and Korpisalo terms will by then expire. Etc

There's also a lot of dead cap expiring soon

Sens won't need to move anybody.
