Hawks have no use for Pearson. And he takes more than a 4th to dump - at least to the Hawks.

Think back to last off season when the Canucks paid the Hawks a 2nd round pick to take Dickinson, Chicago also sent Stillman’s contract back as part of the deal… that’s the price for them to take Pearson, another 2nd.

Not interested in that deal; Pearson can go elsewhere in that case.

Dickinson had multiple years left on his deal also with retention you could easily flip Pearson at the TDL considering his playoff experience.

Agreed a 2nd is too rich. Don't know if Pearson is a TDL play though

With half retention and assuming he bounces back to pre hand injury Pearson he could easily be flipped IMO.

Don't think other teams want that burden. Best bet is he plays well with JT.

At the TDL at half retained with his playoff pedigree I'd be surprised if hes viewed as a burden, ppl are forgetting that before he was playing through his hand injury he was outperforming his contract, Pearson showing he's come back to form at sub 2 million definitely gets you a late round pick anywhere depending on his play a 4th-6th round pick maybe even a 3rd if he does really well during the season.

yes and dickinson had an extra year on his deal and stillman was viewed as a positive asset in hte trade (canucks later flipped him for a prospect)

Bottom line is, CHI isn't taking a $3.25M cap hit with a $4.25M in actual salary off VAN's hands for a 4th round pick. Especially a guy like Pearson who can't stay healthy. No interest in doing the leg work to flip him either... Which is pretty unlikely considering CHI already has too many forwards as it is, and taking his health in recent seasons into consideration, I'd bet he ends up scratched and/or on IR most of the year, doesn't garner any worthwhile interest at the TDL, and disappears into UFA oblivion. Have fun finding another team too.. Doesn't look like AZ is in the business of taking bad contracts anymore especially after VAN stuck them with the burned retention slot for a billion years from the OEL buyout, SJS wants a quick turnaround rebuild, and Verbeek doesn't seem like the type to give discounts on cap dumps.

When the Hawks made the trade for Dickinson, they needed centre depth with questions surrounding Toews health. They still managed to get a 2nd round pick and unload Stillman.

Chicago doesn’t need Pearson, so the only reason for them to make the deal is for draft pick that would be attached to him, if it isn’t significant then there is no point in making the deal. Anything less then a 2nd round pick and Davidson walks away.

Also don’t forget how hard cap space is to come by this season, the number of teams up against the cap is unprecedented.

As far as retention goes, the Hawks already have Johnson, Murphy, Hall, Perry, Foligno, Athanasiou who could all be retention candidates and only two retention spots remaining… you can’t retain on everyone.
