For MTL, it helps in 2 different ways. They get a few mid round picks for a player they got for essentially free, as well as this would put them under the threshold of putting Carey Price on regular season LTIR. Which basically means they would now have 10.5 million (roughly, closer to 9 mil with the players they would need to send down then call up for the move to work) to make deals. They were able to get a first from Calgary for 6 mil, so it would be interesting to see what KH would be able to do with 1 retention slot and roughly 9-10 million in space to take bad contracts.
For COL, they get a goalie who has been a good backup on a bad defensive team in the 0.912-0.914 range for a few years at a very reasonable caphit. Obviously it's not Ideal to have to get a backup to replace your starter temporarily, but there are very few options that aren't going to be much more expensive. Some people might get upset from the off ice stuff from 9 years ago (I believe, not 100% sure though), but in a pure hockey sense, it's probably one of their best options in terms of benefit vs cost.
Overall, I'd say Montreal is playing with house money, as long as they don't retain and get some pick or player they can flip in return, it's free assets. While Colorado gets what they need while they find out what is up with Francouz with a reasonable price and cap. So I would call it even.
