If OTT Trades Pinto

Created by: gaz
Team: 2023-24 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 18, 2023
Published: Sep. 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Based on Friedman's reporting where potentially if OTT was put in a position where they feel inclined to move Pinto (NOT saying he wants a trade or that the team wants to trade him), OTT would look to move him and one other player with cap and term to clear out space, while still remaining as much if not more competitive than they would otherwise be. This option gives CAR a guy with minimum 20 goal production who could develop into a true 2nd line center, while giving OTT the best current player in the deal in TT and a bottom 6 center in Drury who gives them good, young NHL depth, while also alleviating some cap concerns as well.

Then it's not a trade. Ottawa can't take 50% of Teuvo. They might as well keep Pinto without signing him.

while i dont think the canes wouldn't be interested in retaining on Turbo, maybe we could find a team that would be. we some decent older prospects to cover the costs.

Carolina can't take Joseph, that deal is AWFUL and Pinto isn't good enough to justify it

Teräväinen is UFA to be, Joseph replaces his cap hit this year and the next 2 seasons, they have a solid defensive forward and PK specialist

The genius CF collective hive mind has made Joseph as a terrible player while he's not. Look at EV Defense and PK percentiles, that's the player he is.

They are getting Pinto as a compensation for downgrading an UFA to be to Joseph and that 1st round pick. Drop Drury if you want, he's not needed

Not saying I am pushing for the trade, just offering some insight

That's fine, Joseph is good defensively. He's AWFUL offensively. He makes 3.4 million to be awful defensively. Remember, Carolina have players already that are stronger defensively than Joseph who are also cheaper, like Staal, Fast.

Joseph has the Radek Faksa bug where he's good defensively, but he's SO bad offensively his deal is tragic.

As bad as you're making Joseph out to be offensively, his Ponts/60 at ES since 2020-21 are 1.64

During the same period of time, some Hurricanes forwards Pts/60 at ES :

Sebastian Aho 2.65
Andrei Svechnikov 2.32
Martin Necas 2.09
Seth Jarvis 2.01
Jesperi Kotkaniemi 1.91
Teuvo Teravainen 1.85
Jordan Staal 1.84
Jesper Fast 1.6
Jordan Martinook 1.58

It's also important to note that last season, Joseph mainly played at ES with Tyler Motte, Shane Pinto (rookie who had just missed a full season), Derick Brassard (declined version), Julien Gauthier and Dylan Gambrell

The only good linemates he played with was Tkachuk and Stutzle for 11.9% of his ES shifts

Oh and who looks at salary, his cap hit is 2.95

Fast is actually a pretty good comparable for Joseph. Fairly similar production, ES and PK work. Fast didn't miss many games lately though

Fast's also just better because he's not an offensive black hole. , but even if you want to compare them head to head, Fast's cheaper. Look at the Canes you tried to compare Joseph to. The only one Jospeh is better than is Jordan Martinook... a dude that was on waivers at the beginning of last year. He is a cap dump.

We're comparing to players on a team that have good contracts in general and who prioritize 2-way hockey (like they should)

I'm not sure how you can say that Fast is "not an offensive black hole" while Joseph is.

Fast is 31 and has a career 0.36 PPG (0.39 PPG the last 3 years with the Canes)

Joseph is 26 and has a career 0.35 PPG (0.45 PPG in 67 GP with Ottawa)

They both get their points on ES or PK, very few PP points.

Joseph actually produces that in just 12:30 TOI/GP while Fast has a career14:42 TOI/GP

So I have no idea how you can make this statement when it's objectively not true.

Yes MJ would cost an asset to move right now but that's why the Sens should keep him, his value will be positive again next season as he bounces back and the cap rises

Erm... I doubt that, look at Joseph's RAPM over the last three seasons compared to Fast. AFQStLEzJ7qJAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC.png?width=741&height=610

That offensive struggle is undeniable. It's much more likely he doesn't bounce back at this is more like what he is making 3 million. It's why Fast who makes 2.4 is better value. Plus, Fast's line was the best in hockey in terms of xG last year according to Moneypuck. Joseph struggles across the board.

Again, very hard to discussed with you. You're either way too biased or completely lost.

Regularized Adjusted Plus-Minus? ok lol

Your statement was : "Fast's also just better because he's not an offensive black hole"

If Joseph is and Fast isn't, then how the heck do you explain :

Fast is 31 and has a career 0.36 PPG (0.39 PPG the last 3 years with the Canes)

Joseph is 26 and has a career 0.35 PPG (0.45 PPG in 67 GP with Ottawa)

And Joseph did it in LESS minutes... but sure, believe what you want and use all kind of advanced stats to deflect the attention to these simple facts
