I doubt it. I assume a 2nd minimum. I like the add for Vancouver if they could pull this off. I really don't like this for Ottawa though.

Probably more likely a 2nd. But I would see them doing a swap for a similar value young forward like Hoglander

Can’t see Vancouver doing this, maybe a swap for rathbone, but that’s about it

I would probably say a 2nd and maybe a throw in player/contract (min value) although I doubt Ottawa moves Brannstrom this year, more likely at the draft next year or offseason.

it'd be a pretty sweet deal for Vancouver to trade away a worse player in exchange for a better player, yeah

Sure brannstrom is slightly better but he’s nothing special, and he’s also more than double the salary of rathbone and last I checked Ottawa needs every dollar of cap space they can get right now to sign pinto.

Yeah, trading for a young forward with Top-9 upside would be the smartest way to trade Brannstrom. Trading him for a 3rd would be disappointing and would end up even worse than watching DeMelo (who was traded for a 3rd) having a good career.

I think the trade deadline could be a possibility too, depending on how Kleven forces management's hand

Brannstrom >>> Rathbone

You're not very well informed if you don't know that

Exactly what I said above. Don't make statements when you're not informed. It's called misinformation when people do that.

Brannstrom VASTLY outplayed his 3rd pairing 16 mins per game role. His metrics indicate than he could do well in a 2nd pairing role too, and by watching the games, he actually did on the 1st/2nd pairing when Chabot has been injured

So if he’s so good why did Ottawa have to go out and acquire chychrun for the top 4 if brannstrom was already there and capable of playing in the top 4? Oh yeah that’s right because he’s not. He’s a 3rd pair dman who can play top 4 minutes in a pinch but if you expect him to be an everyday top 4 you’re badly mistaken

There was a gigantic hole on RD, Brannstrom plays LD. They want Chychrun to play that RD role.

It's also Pierre Dorion, when he has a fixation on a player, he will eventually get him. Duchene, Joseph, DeBrincat, Chychrun... and probably more that we don't know about

Oh and Brannstrom's game took a big jump last season, particularly defensively. They didn't know before what he was going to be capable of.

But anyway, 2 guys block him in Ottawa : Jake Sanderson, Thomas Chabot

So you'll understand why he's stuck on the 3rd pairing

And I'll take your bet on Brannstrom not becoming a 2nd pairing D-man. I have been projecting players for 30+ years, I know talent when I see it.

Everyone in the NHL has talent… look at how that worked out for guys like yakupov and virtanen. I agree he’s blocked out of the top 4 in Ottawa but I also don’t believe he’s good enough to play there even if he wasn’t. Also there’s only a handful of teams who don’t need a top 4 dman so if he’s as good as you think why hasn’t anyone else offered up a package Ottawa can’t say no to for him?

Yakupov is a waste of talent, he was just not playing the right way. Virtanen is another case, he was trending in the right direction then had some serious off-ice stuff going on, he's now playing in Germany

Chabot has missed 37 games in the last 2 seasons, Brannstrom had to play more minutes in several of these games and did relatively well. I mean, Sens fans watch Sens games and it's a pretty common comment among them, except maybe a few who have a size bias.

The fact that he has not been traded yet doesn't mean anything. You can literally say the same thing about any random player. We don't even know what are the exact Sens intentions. All we know is they want to sign Pinto but negotiations take time and they must be trying to convince him to take a 1 year bridge to help with the situation

Dorion also seems to be a huge procrastinator, he doesn't seem to set some internal deadlines. Same thing happened in Mark Stone and Brady Tkachuk files.

Ottawa has known since the end of last year they have to sign pinto, they failed to save cap space for it so now the options they have are give up a player with some value for nothing, or pay to move someone. Teams in cap trouble never get the real value of a player they’re forced to move because every team knows they have to move said player.

They had well enough cap space going into the offseason. Dorion decided to sign Korpisalo (4.0 AAV), Tarasenko (5.0 AAV), Hamonic (1.1 AAV) and MacEwen (0.775 AAV). He's a weirdo, he puts himself in all kind of positions. I am among his biggest critics so I don't disagree with this but you shifted the conversation, I was only discussing about Brannstrom after you said he was slightly better than Rathbone but nothing special.

Because he is just marginally better, they’ve put up basically identical numbers in the AHL, rathbone just hasn’t been given a real shot in the nhl yet

AHL? That is your argument? ok so that's why you think he's "marginally better"

He could become as good, or even better but being older, it's unlikely. Not talking about about offensive production, but developing a defensive and transition game as good
