The Canucks can't afford to do this in terms of cap space if my read is correct. I also would be hesitant to sell low on Hoglander and give up a third, unless they really believe in Brannstrom.

I can't see Vancouver giving that much up for Brännstörm especially with the Sens desperately needing to move money

Short 1m on Pinto and already short 1 spare realistically. Dorion painted himself into the corner, now he's watching paint dry. It certainly seems like he's waiting for reoccurring/nagging injury updates before trying to shed cap

I like it.

For both teams.

Fixes Ottawa's cap. And gives more opportunitu to JBD, Kleven and tompson. Adding another young forward in Hoglander would be fun.

As for Vancouver, they have quite a few wingers already (although less so with Pearson gone). I don't love most of Vancouver's depth defensive options and I think Brannstrom would help give them a much better option for their bottom pair. Adding Parker makes it so that Van doesn't lose too much depth on forward also.

Maybe remove the 3rd? But overall a Brannstrom for Hoglander swap seems like a good idea for both teams. I value the D man more and I think that 3rd is a reasonable compensation.

But yes you are short on Pinto. But you could send Kleven down and run a 20 man. use that 800k on Pinto. Playing with fire but it may be their best option.

Well that’s their L. Brannstrom can play top 4 and very effective on the 3rd pair

And they lose Hoglander, who could play in the top 6 one day. Plus, they help the sens sign Pinto. If they wait, sens will have to either overpay to dump a player or trade Pinto

If Brannstrom was available there would be 20+ teams trying to get him

Hoglander has been asked for in many trades but the Canucks haven’t budged. They are still high on them. Don’t need another LHD

He posted very good 2 way numbers on the 3rd pair playing with a bunch of terrible bottom 6 guys. He can play 2nd pair easily

Let’s paint a picture. You are a rebuilding team. You have the choice to get Brannstrom for a fourth or wait a bit and get Pinto, Joseph with a first, Brannstrom for free or Kubalik for free. What are you taking

Ottawa has no leverage anymore, if they wanna sign pinto they’re either paying someone to take a contract or giving someone away for nothing.

If it was Kastelic instead of Kelly and maybe the Canucks might consider it.

If all team wait, yes. Sens have no choice to trade one of those 4. If nobody want Joseph (and nobody will), you will have to up the sweetener

With what money are you signing Pinto. No one is gonna help you, knowing that if they wait, he will be available for a trade

Management is way too high on hoglanders potential to bite on this. even if they werent, it would have to be hoglander for branstrom one for one. remove the auxiliary parts

They are close on a deal… but they don’t have the money. Which prove my point. The other teams have the leverage and will ask for a lot. Pinto isn’t likely to be traded, but the others too. Not a single rebuilding team need Kubalik, Forsberg, Joseph or Brannstrom. They will need to be paid quite a lot to take them. Contenders might want them but they don’t have cap space. I only see 2 teams who would have the cap space to take one of them, New Jersey and Buffalo. New Jersey has an abundance of forwards and no need for Brannstrom. Buffalo might have a need for them but they won’t help Ottawa, their strongest competitor for a wildcard spot

The Sens would gladly sit out Pinto till an injury or till they get the money to sign him longterm next offseason

And Pinto will happily wait and not ask for a trade? Plus, if there is a short term injury, the cap still count. So unless Norris is on ltir again (which would not be good), they won’t have the cap via injuries

Trading Brannstrom for a young forward with top-9 upside is the only way it'd make sense to me. Trading him for a pick (unless 1st) would be a guarantied loss in the future

Brannstrom is actually good so they wouldn't regret it. Smart move for both teams. Problem is probably cap reasons

Brannstrom VASTLY outplayed his 3rd pairing 16 mins per game role. His metrics indicate than he could do well in a 2nd pairing role too, and by watching the games, he actually did on the 1st/2nd pairing when Chabot has been injured

Why does it matter to them? They're in the Western conference and don't even compete for the same playoffs spots. GMs often help out each others, it's good business that could pay off in the future (like in any business field)

I would not trade Kastelic for Hoglander. Kastelic is huge, a fitness freak, pretty intimidating, was elite on faceoffs in his rookie season and already good defensively. He even has a scoring touch that will improve with time

They will send Joseph to the AHL if it comes down to that, play with the number of players on the roster until an injury... There's so many ways to play with the cap when you're short for about 1 M$ lol

Stop panicking guys
