Zegras to the canes

Created by: Altar7358
Team: 2023-24 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 21, 2023
Published: Sep. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’d really like the addition of Zegras with his offensive creativity to a team that really lacks it. I have zero idea what somebody like Zegras would go for though so I just kind of threw a ton of stuff in there

Ducks ask for one of Jarvis/Necas or they bounce.

I think a 1st and a roster player are a good start, but you'd probably have to add a prospect with a higher ceiling. The 2nd and 3rd are pretty irrelevant here.

Ducks are in no position to demand anything when they're offering the guy a lowly 3m a year

Anaheim is trying to get him to sign for 3m. Simply offer sheet the guy and don't give up anything except picks

They can if he's an RFA. also the reported 3-4m was reported by a montreal reporter, not any real inside source.

Before this news came out I'd agree with you but idk. They literally might just not see a need for him anymore now that Carlsson is there

It's not news, it's speculation from a low level pundit half a world away spinning a yarn about the inner workings of one of the most radio silent GM regions out there.

If that is the ask, sure, why not.

Wouldn’t Anaheim be more interested in Nadeau or Trikizov than Morrow?

Drury, Turbo, Trikizov and a 1st be better?

Ducks fan coping. Just admit it, that 3m offer is insulting

There would have to be a shred of truth for me to believe it, and some low level Quebecoise pundit "breaking the news" about an American player on a California team smells rather ripe, don't you think?

Given the amount of Habs fans on here drooling over the possibility of reuniting Zegras and Caufield, rather seems like said pundit is **** stirring to drive clicks to his Twitter account.

Well firstly you brought up how radio silent the Ducks front office is. I'll let you in on a little secret, that doesn't matter because they're not the ones who leaked it. Zegras' agents most likely did. They're playing hardball because if it gets out that the Ducks only want to pay Zegras a 3x3, everyone will rightfully be like WTF and then the Ducks are incentivized to increase their offer.

Can you at least admit that if the reports are true, 3m/year is BEYOND insulting?! I would be livid as a Ducks fan. You're not hurting for money, so pay the guy that's supposed to be your literal franchise player. No excuse unless Zegras is somehow an extreme locker room problem and that's why they're hesitating

And if there's not a "shred of truth" to this, why is it September 21st and zero progress has been made with negotiations?

If it's a true offer, then yeah it would be insulting. Much more likely it was a counter to the agent asking for 9-10 AAV, or the agent attempting to "leak" to put pressure on the situation. As to zero progress, they've agreed to a three year bridge, it's just down to price now. Drysdale has had zero progress but that's another issue.

As to playing hardball with all our capspace though, it makes sense. He got Terry to take a team friendly long term deal, he can't cave with Zegras or Drysdale or he sets a bad precedent like Dubas did in Toronto.

This will probably get uglier before it's over, but it's laying the groundwork for the dynasty we're hoping to build. If Zegras sits the first few weeks of the season as a result so be it.
