We are more likely to trade Kubalik somewhere for a 3rd than to give the Habs a 1st just to dump Joseph.

Ottawa declines.

Try again.

How do you think Kubalik changes the situation at all? Teams trying to compete still don't have the cap room and he's not worth anything to teams who are tanking.

Even if contending teams can't fit him now, there are plenty of teams on the outside looking in, or straight up rebuilding who could easily justify trading for Kubalik. Sens are gonna get hosed on the return, it'll be extremely easy for a weaker team to pick him up for cheap, let him play up in the lineup and score, then flip him for a better return at the deadline. Team could easily ship him out for a 2nd at the deadline

He's been available at deadlines before. He ended up not being traded and then not being qualified.

At least nobody IRL will be greedy enough to demand a 1st for taking Kubalik.

Although I wouldn't put it past most people on this site.

I'm not sure a Sens fan should be harping on 'people on this site'. You guys were up in arms it wouldn't take stuff like a 1st to move Joseph right up until it did.

So ... it is going to cost a 1st to move Kubalik.

If that's the case, Pinto can be left unsigned for the season.

Problem solved.

It may not cost a 1st to move Kubalik but the situation with Joseph has shown us how little ground the Sens have to stand on in these negotiations. Expecting something like a 3rd back for Kubalik is rather unreasonable given the circumstances.

You haven't solved a problem when you create an even bigger one.

The problem is solved.

We stay under the cap with a 21 man roster

And we still have Pinto's signing rights for next year.

It's too bad we can't make fair trades anymore.

Now you just have a player who's unhappy because he didn't get paid for a full season because of a GMs incompetence. That's a worse problem than what you started with. It's not a solution at all. It's also not realistic at all because Dorion would be signing his own death warrant.

The interests of the team come before that of the player.

We are not paying a 1st to move anybody.

And Dorion has been GM of the Sens for 7 years and counting.

We also just got a new owner and he hasn't fired him yet.

With all the horrible moves Dorion has made in the last 7 years, not signing Pinto wouldn't even be among the worst 10.

That's nice. It still would be the one that gets him fired though. He can't make it.

There is no struggle.

We just don't sign Pinto until next year.

Or until somebody finally realizes that they don't have to fleece other teams just to make a fair trade.

Whichever comes first.

Have fun with your 20 man roster that loses in the first round again.

Damn if 9 mill of Joseph costs a 1st to dump I wonder how many 1sts it costs to dump the 70 mill left on Dvorak, Gallagher, Armia, and anderson's contracts

Ottawa is not paying the Habs a 1st to dump Joseph because some random Habs fan on the internet like you said so.

And why should it cost a 1st to dump Joseph, but only a 3rd to dump Pearson ??

Pearson has had so many surgeries on his left hand that he might as well be an amputee.

I'm sorry to hurt your feelings, but NHL trades aren't made from your desktop in your mom's basement ...

Pinto isn’t going to stay unsigned because some random Ottawa senators fan said so.

I’m also very aware that Dorion won’t pay a 1st to Dump Joseph it doesn’t make sens. He should be fired if he does so. Montreal didn’t want to run a 3 goalie system while we still have Primeau. Moving DeSmith was crucial even for a 7th. We got a really good return for him actually. And if Pearson can bounce back under MSL we can flip him at the deadline and I believe we will.

I mentioned in my title “ If it’s true “ making it very clear I believe it isn’t..

How do you think Kubalik changes the situation at all? Teams trying to compete still don't have the cap room and he's not worth anything to teams who are tanking.

Teams "tanking" or rebuilding could see it as a smart investment. BUY LOW (maybe a 4th/5th now?) SELLHIGH (2nd at the deadline?)

Teams competing in need of scoring depth could then decide to move another player or even waive or bury that player in the AHL, just to have the space to fit Kubalik's modest AAV

Plus, injuries will happen and more players will go on LTIR. Even if there is NO NEED (doubtful) for a 20g/45 pts scorer (at only 2.5 AAV) NOW, the need is going to be created as soon as there's a few injuries. So it's very possible that Pinto misses a few games... Giroux can still play Center, Greig is also a top prospect and Center (will be better than Pinto IMO)

Tkachuk missed the first 3 games 2 years ago... It's a bit of a similar situation although for different reasons

Not a very good argument and here's why :

He has played 4 NHL seasons, I really doubt the Hawks wanted to trade him during his first 2 seasons. He scored 26 ES goals in 68 games in his rookie season... He had a really poor 3rd year so the Hawks decided to let him go (most likely not anticipated because they were going through a lot of changes). During his 4th season, he was under contract the following year so the Wings most likely didn't have the intention to move him, until the DeBrincat situation happened.

lol it never DID in real life. Gosh, reality seems to be such an abstract concept nowadays

The GM's problem has been there for 7 years. It might have taken new ownership to fix that issue. It will happen rather sooner than later (most Sens fans hope)
