Team: 2024-25 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 25, 2023
Published: Sep. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is assuming landeskog is 100%, Toews signs for less AAV in return gets the full 8yrs. Girard trade may be seen as an overpay but AVS don’t have the cap luxury now to pay 5M for 3yrs for a guy who would play bottom pair, a first is the cost of that much cap relief. Chicago gets an actual NHL calibre LD. Sign league min contracts to replace any holes in the bottom 6/Bottom D pair/Backup

Like everything but the trade, agree with what you said about Sammy but for the fact he has positive value, trick is finding the team that needs a puck mover

What is that trade??

You should be able to find a team to take him for free at least if not pay for him — Chicago would take him for free right now imo

I'm sorry but JJ is done after this year. Chicago would be a good spot for Sammy, but kinda feel the value is a little off

I agree Girard is a good defenseman with value and perhaps next offseason someone may take him for free but I don’t think the Hawks are that team.

Chicago has a 1/2 dozen solid defensive prospects coming through their system that they will be looking to develop and move up. Vlasic, Phillips, Roos, Kaiser should all get looks in the NHL this season, Del Mastro and Allan are making the move to the AHL for the coming season and Korchinski will probably get a taste of the NHL to start the year and then be sent back to Junior.

With Jones and Murphy signed for the next few seasons already providing veteran leadership there may not be a lot of room for additional vets. Now… if a team like Colorado was willing to add a sweetener to a player like Girard as proposed here, then I could see the Hawks altering their plan.

Having said all of that I think Chicago would accept this proposal.

Girard has hovered around 30th in the league in ES scoring over the last few years (higher on a per game basis) and, contrary to popular belief, is not just an offensive defenseman. I don't care how much trouble the Avs might be in terms of the cap. Teams will pay for a guy like that, and especially when they come with term.

you also didn't add in the 4 mil cap raise so that can help out with depth, but that girard trade is ridiculous. Capfriendly probily doesn't allow enough words in a comment that i would need to tell you how many ways that girard trade is awful.
