Pinto isn’t signing for that, not sure Flyers accept. That’s about his value but you aren’t taking into account Dorion is backed into a corner

Honestly - I expect them to move Brannstrom on a similar deal to this, sign Pinto to ~$2M 1 year and send Matthieu Joseph to the minors. They'll save more than enough that way to sign him to that, and will be able to call him up later either if a more expensive player ends up on LTIR or if they just bank a bit of salary cap space through the first part of the year - probably running Hamonic & JBD 3rd pair with just 20 skaters for a homestand or two.

I just think if a 2nd/3rd is his fair value then his realistic trade value right now is a 4th/5th. Every team knows you need to move someone so u aren’t getting fair value for anything you do right now. I still don’t think Pinto signs for $2M I think it will be $2.5M like all of the reports say

I'm not sure it works like that. Some teams will want Brannstrom - if you look at on-ice/ off-ice metrics - DJ didn't play him enough last year. I mean, there's definitely some opponent effect in there, but he's a very effective D-man. The only reason that people are looking to trade him as the solution to the salary cap bind is that
1. He has surplus value over his contract, so will bring back an asset and not cost one. I think he's worth a 2nd right now, so 3rd is taking that situation into account a bit.
2. The drop-off in talent for the Sens organization behind Brannstrom is less than dropping Mathieu Joseph out of the forward group (though Jiri Smejkal looks to be helping that!)

Branstrom is worth a 3rd, but PHI probably doesn;t part with one based on what they have.

I could see a Joseph/Branstrom/OTT 2nd for Seeler or Sean Walker at 50% kind of thing

Not sure this is intended but if it is, pretty smart from Dorion to be patient because INJURIES happen and some teams will NEED to add a guy like Kubalik or Brannstrom in the near future

Forget it because it's AWFUL value for Ottawa

Joseph and Brannstrom are quite comfortably the best players in that deal and they'd add a 2nd on top of it. Sure, cap space is valuable but it also has to make sense.

You don't trade Drake Batherson for a 7th because you need cap space

Not eligible for an offer sheet.

I can't believe anyone thinks that he's eligible for an offer sheet after it getting this far. They could easily have put Ottawa in a huge bind if they signed him to an offer sheet. Actually might have helped Ottawa though - then they have a contract.

Yeah but could be an overpriced contract which wouldn't be ideal at all right now...

If it's overpriced they're getting back more compensation. But it's academic, as Pinto doesn't meet the requirements under the CBA to be offer-sheeted. He can not sign a contract, but he can only sign a contract with the Sens.

Yeah but compensations aren't that great when the salary is not high... IF Pinto could be OS for 4.25 AAV, that's only a 2nd round pick compensation

And if we still decide to sign Pinto at 4.25 AAV, then it means we have to pay to move Joseph and give away Kubalik for peanuts. Our leverage would be even more horrible than now

Thankfully it can't happen
