Description

Waiving Joseph hurts our PK and means less speed. BUT this option gets us very close to 1 yr offer of $2M for Pinto which MAYBE he takes if Dorion says "it's this or we explore trade options".
Waiving Joseph means: A- we don't pay the insane price it would cost to move him, and B- we could call him back up once we get some LTIR banked (which we all know will happen).
The issue for me is that 4th line is going to hurt us and we'd all rather see Jarventie and Smejkal in there, but that would take the Pinto offer down to the $1.7M range.

Totally irrelevant to the post but Pre Injury Batherson is back. And he doesn’t look like a liablity defensively and he’s carrying play

Maybe not, but keep in mind he's running out of options to play this yr. Season starts in like a week. Dorion is Capcrunched and throughout the league there are very few $ available.
A cheap 1 year deal may allow him to enter next off-season with real OS hopes.

Gee, why would Dorion even say this. Pinto would love to be traded and now you have just given him the bone. Yeah, I think Pinto does sign for 2m though. Pinto has to know that he is being shopped anyway.

Plus as he had no arbitration rights and no leverage, his 35 pts will only get him so far. If you look at what other forwards with mid production signed after their ELCs, this 1.987 AAV is actually a pretty good offer.

The Athletic came up with a 1.78 AAV valuation for 2 years earlier this summer... This is close to what he's worth so it should actually be less for just 1 year.
