Detroit does not entertain trading a top prospect that they just drafted

Lmao that’s comical considering it probably costs that much just to dump Campbell. EDM GM would accept this in a heartbeat.

I think the value is fine for TK but Detroit wouldn’t do that. I hate the EDM trade. Campbell is less than useless and that contract is the worst in the league it’s not enough to take him and give Hart.

Yea I knew you would but Im all about stocking the cabinet these next two years. We still have cap space even with taking on Campbell.

I agree but we just have too many goalies waiting to take up a spot. Zagarvin, Bjarnsson, Kolosov, Ersson, Petersen are all already in the system assuming we lose Sandstrom to waivers. Within the next few years those guys are going to start to be ready to go with the big club and then ur screwed because Campbell is still there taking up a spot.

Carter isn't worth all that and why would DET trade the Dman they just drafted?

Because he's super young and they could compete now. Cant hold onto all your assets. Look at buffalo; they got a slew of young studs that all will not make the team. So they gotta package.

Not how it works.

1) They still wouldn't compete now and TK isn't moving the needle much;
2) You're right that you can't hold onto all your assets, but assets that you literally just drafted 3 months ago don't fall into that category.

Nope.

If we frame the trade as simply a means to be rid of Campbell, how much is the cap hit of his buyout worth to the team? Is the 1.1mil, 2.3mil, 2.6mil, and 3 * 1.5mil in cap savings in a rising cap environment worth 2 1sts (assume Broberg and the 2nd are the payment for Hart)? Opinions may vary but I'd presume the answer for most people would be a firm "No". Beyond that, Hart will need a new contract next year so, even if I assume he's as good as many PHI seem to think, he's going to command more than what Campbell currently makes and, as such, price himself out of EDM or price EDM out of other important upgrades/renewals.

And this is without reflecting the reality of the volatile nature of the goaltending position. It's entirely plausible that Campbell bounces back this season and invalidates this discussion and every one like it.

Yeah no he won’t enjoy the worst goalie in the league for another 4 years unless you pay the multiple 1sts to move him

Ok right but they wouldn't be trading a RD considering their RD depth, besides Mo and Pellikka, consists of a 34 y/o, a 30 y/o, and then a bunch of players who are far from even a 3rd liner in the NHL. Plus, this team (with TK) is at best a 2nd round exit. Rushing the rebuild is an awful idea. Fans of opposing teams think there's more pressure to win than there really is. Id rather stink and be contenders than be playoff regulars that don't make it past the 2nd round.

Lmao I love how you didn't even respond to his response on how it would just be smarter for Edmonton to buy him out, Hart would price himself out of Edmonton and that it just isn't a smart move for Edmonton at all. You just decided Campbell was going to absolutely suck for the next four years (Even though the league has seen goalie's bounce back millions of times but ok now), lets say that Campbell is genuinely terrible these next 4 years (very unlikely), it would still be so much smarter for Edmonton to just buy him out.

Teams typically don't trade players they just picked, as much as I would love gaining ASP.

Also Edmonton won't part with essentially 3 1sts to move Campbell, and I doubt Philly isn't a part of his MNTC. Plus having Campbell soak up 4 years of space would suck given our already crowded goalie pipeline.

Hart isn't an upgrade on Campbell.

Both men entered the league at essentially the same time, and within this 5-year window, Campbell has a higher save percentage and a lower GAA. There is a whopping $1.021M difference in cap hits between these two men, with Hart likely signing a contract identical to Tristan Jarry's within the next 180 days. That will actually make him more expensive than Campbell is today. He's younger sure, and might have a little bit more highway to go in his development, but as they are right now there's absolutely no need for Edmonton to pay such an outrageous price to downgrade their goaltending. Recall that Hart's worst season is still worse than the butt-fumble that was Campbell's first year in Edmonton.

I have all the time in the world for talks about Konecny to Edmonton. I might revisit the idea of Hart to Edmonton if Jackie can't keep the puck out of the net this season and it costs the McDavid Oilers another chance at Lord Stanley. But right now, not a chance.
